Romans 4
Romans 4
Introduction: Scared to death to drive a car. I remember the first time on the road, feeling like I wasn’t ready
Tension: This chapters hits at a core tension we have: would we rather be ready or have faith?
Main idea: When we put our faith in God, he often puts us in situations we aren't ready for.
Background: Romans 4 is built on the story of Abraham in Genesis 15:6
Abraham and his wife Sarah are told that they would have as many descendants as stars are in the sky. But they get old, to about 100 years old. They passed “ready”
Secondary point: [verses: 18-21 ] When things don’t look ready, I can have faith!
Abraham and his wife didn’t look ready!
New Living Translation Chapter 4
Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” 19 And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.
20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. 21 He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.
Application:
What do you feel like you’re not ready for? Because if it’s a dream, a promise, something from God. Have faith despite the circumstances!
