Heart of the Home

A divided heart leads to a divided home.
Matthew 10:34–36 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.
What Jesus is saying here is that the peace will not dwell in a home where there is opposition to the Spirit of the Christ. I was speaking with my Father the other day and he made a reference to the idiom, “Hear no evil, see no evil, think no evil, speak no evil.
Scripture tells us in Luke 6:45:
Luke 6:45 ESV
The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
The abundance of the heart is filled with whatever we allow to enter our souls through our eyes and ears which feeds through our thoughts and shapes our souls.
What is the abundance of the heart or soul of your home?
If Jesus were to stay in your home for any length of time and record a virtual reality show what would you spend time trying to hide or give to Him some long drawn out explanation as to why things are the way they are?
Revelation 3:20 ESV
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Now this verse is actually a reference to the engagement process of a Jewish marriage. But it is still applicable to the communal environment within a home where either the Spirit of Christ reigns, or the home is filled with all other kinds of spirits. Whatever is in the heart of your home, either you or someone else in the home, has allowed by an open door.
Mark 3:27 ESV
But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.
Who is the strong man in your house? Men, are you standing strong in the faith that the enemy may not plunder your family? Women, are you standing strong in Christ Jesus in your homes that the thief may not come in and steal from your family? Sons and daughters, are you standing firm in truth and casting off the spiritual compromise of this culture and helping grow in Christ learning to build your homes on a firm foundation?
Luke 11:21–23 ESV
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; but when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoil. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
Someone once said, it takes a village to raise a family. I tell you, it takes more than a village. It takes the Spirit of God, the Word of Truth, men and women of God, and a church that will stand with you and call you up to righteousness in Christ Jesus. It takes a family that does a heart check in the home and calls the heart of the home to the heart of Father God. It takes a heart in a home that will not compromise and let culture dictate the heart or the home.
You have heard me quote many times, “Where your treasure is there your heart is also?” Make honoring the Lord the greatest treasure in your home and let it permeate the hearts of your home. Hear the words of the Lord:
Isaiah 57:15 ESV
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
What is the heart of your home?
