CAN YOU PASS LIFE’S TEST?

Text: Job 1:22

INTRODUCTION: The story of Job is the greatest example of the test of life that is found in the Bible.   Notice his 7 great tests.

I. THE TEST OF PROSPERITY

            Job was considered the greatest man in the East. So very few can take the test of prosperity. Let us remember: “But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare.” I Tim. 6:9-10

II. THE TEST OF ADVERSITY

            Job lost everything. The servants came one by one announcing the great losses. Storms, hail, fire, drought and sickness destroy the temporal things of life. Again and again the crash comes.

III. THE TEST OF SORROW

            Job lost all of his children. He was an affectionate, considerate Father. This loss was greater sorrow than all of his property.  There were ten caskets in one day. This surely was the unspeakable test of sorrow.

IV. THE TEST OF PHYSICAL AFFLICTION

            Job was stricken with boils from the crown of his head to the soles of his feet. He moved out of his house and sat in a pile of ashes, and scraped the corruption from his sores with a potsherd.

V.  THE TEST OF BETRAYAL

            This was the bitterest of all. Mrs. Job had, undoubtedly, enjoyed the prosperity of her husband. She had not stood with him in adversity and sorrow. She was bitter and mad at God. “Curse God and die” (Job 2:9). God gave him patience.

VI. THE TEST OF DOUBT

            I suppose the greatest test was to try to explain all of this away by circumstance and luck. But Job said, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God” (Job 19:25, 26).
