Introduction

Gentleman it is your turn!!

Last week we learned about OUR wives are Child of the Same GOD

with the SAME standing in God’s eyes,

and are CO HEIRS of the KINGDOM of HEAVEN

We learned that our WIVES need to live with a GODLY Conduct

so that they can win the GROWTH of there SPOUSE

and that --- I hope you saw this in your further study this week ---

that the WIFE’s role includes work in the home,

and work outside the home

and women have a GOD given role in MARRIAGE

Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible (Marriage, Marriage Customs)

Union between man and woman, sanctified by God as a means of maintaining family life.

The idea of marriage was ordained by God in his instruction to Adam

that a man should leave his father and mother,

and he and his wife should be as one flesh (Gn 2:24).

The first actual mention of the word marriage is in Genesis 34:8.

I want to be clear on the God’s Word in Marriage.

God’s Marriage is the joining of ONE Man and ONE Woman

Two joined as ONE

It is the joining that we fight with God about...

There is a concept of a weak or damaged rafter or joist that needs support and we will take another board of equal dimensions and nail it to it to HELP THE ORIGINAL BOARD.

Two bored people joined together to carry a load and to be walked on my society at times.

Brothers YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW THAT CONCEPT

Your wife is not a convenience

Your wife is not something you deserve

Your wife is not your ball and chain

YOUR WIFE IS YOUR FULLY JOINED HELPER THAT GOD MARRIED TO YOU TO SUPPORT YOUR WEAK AND DAMAGED SOUL

KNOW THIS AND THEN OBEY GOD IN YOUR PART

Living with our Wives

start to read this verse

1 peter 3:7 “7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, [PAUSE] showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”

Likewise --- like wise to WHAT

to the verse prior and that paragraph connects to the prior as we have two likewise to deal with here

We are connecting today the actions of a Husband to the actions of a wife,

to our actions in Community

inside the big picture of our ACTIONS

as a Christian--- based on our Conduct

and Position as a Heir of the KINGDOM and a CHILD of GOD.

Living Stones based on the foundation

of CHRIST JESUS who is the CORNERSTONE of our FAITH

NOW PETER GOES ON....

HUSBANDS ---- LIVE WITH YOUR WIFE IN AN UNDERSTANDING WAY.

Ladies, allow me to dissect this verse, break it apart and then read it as the Holy Spirit inspired it.

Now Ladies hold on to the elbows.....

the first part of this verse instructs your husband to LIVE WITH you in an understanding way, showing honor to you...

THEN many have but a pause, a series of periods, or a huge SPACE

BECAUSE how dare PETER

he says AS TO THE WEAKER VESSEL

How dare HE?!!!

well friends, that is our difficulty in study Scripture isn’t it.

we tend to read looking for what we like and what soothes us

rather than reading LOOKING for what will CHANGE US

What will SOOTHE US RATHER THAN CHANGE US

Normal for us as SINNERS that need a SAVIOR

----- we need to judge the lack of understanding in our SPOUSE and see the WEAKER VESSEL as less than rather than positional

HUSBANDS we are commanded by Peter here to TREAT THEM WELL

and by PAUL in Eph 5:33

“33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

1 peter 3:7 “7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.”

HUSBANDS -God is not putting your SOOTHING in FRONT OF YOUR COMMAND

Showing Honor

oh boy --- Peter simply seems in our reading of this in 2023 to not understand the world.

Call someone especially a female weaker..

you should be hung upside down and crucified

That is not political correct.

maybe we seek through our collection of Bibles to find one that translates it in a more cultural soothing way.

we are commanded by Peter here to TREAT THEM WELL

and by PAUL in Eph 5:33 “33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

Weaker Vessel

1, 2 Peter, Jude ((4) Husbands, Live Knowledgeably with Your Wives (3:7))

Nothing else in the New Testament suggests that women are intellectually inferior,

nor is it clear that women are weaker emotionally,

for in many ways the vulnerability of women in sharing their emotions and feelings

demonstrates that they are more courageous and stronger than men emotionally.

Nor did Peter suggest that women are weaker morally or spiritually than men.

Such a view would suggest that men are actually better Christians than women, which is not taught elsewhere in the Scriptures, nor is it evident in history.

The most obvious meaning, therefore, is that women are weaker than men in terms of sheer strength.

so men lets do the HEAVY LIFTING IN OUR MARRIAGE

from the “can you open this jar for me?”

to the LETS PRAY ABOUT THIS?

to the LEADING OF the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IN ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS

we are commanded to TREAT THEM WELL

and by PAUL in Eph 5:33 “33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

Christian men see lowly, hurting, weak, suffering people and seek to ask

HOW CAN I HELP?

we protect, guide, encourage, rebuke and correct

We put our WIFE in the POSITION right under GOD

GOD IS YOUR NUMBER ONE AND YOUR SPOUSE NUMBER TWO

not hunting, hiking, or horseshoes

GOD - WIFE - KIDS - Others - SELF

We are called to LIVE WITH — do life together - to UNDERSTAND the ONENESS

We are CALLED TO BE THE LEADER IN SELFLESSNESS

Co- Heirs

GOD --- then wife -- then others

your wife is A CO-HEIR with you

YOU are joined as ONE

GOD IS MY ONE ---

When i love my wife as a Christian Man with Christian Conduct my Wife is blessed through me,

Brothers your wife is a believer

your wife is a child of the MOST HIGH

You are the LEADER in your HOUSE

and you lead with

GOD’s Word and GODLY CONDUCT

Here is the thing...

We are both Sinners

We both need our Savior

We both are a work in progress

We both need to understand and grow in our knowledge

We both will mess up and need forgiveness

MEN of GOD — HEAR ME

YOU NEED TO DEVELOP a CONDUCT IN YOUR HOME

YOU MUST be the Leader

You must live with your wife in an understanding way

you must understand that you treat your wife with the physical, emotional, and practical understanding that you can overpower

you are a GENTLEMAN

a GENTLE MAN

a GENTLE ----- MAN

[PAUSE]

Unhindered Prayers

1, 2 Peter, Jude ((4) Husbands, Live Knowledgeably with Your Wives (3:7))

Husbands who ignore such a command will find that their prayers are hindered,

which means that God will refuse to answer their prayers.

God does not bless with his favor

those who are in positions of authority and

abuse those who are under them by mistreating them

God blesses HIS People - Followers of HIS WAY - HIS CHILDREN

if prayer is God’s invitation to commune with HIS Children

then it should scare us to TREAT OUR WIVES WELL

to LIVE WITH THEM_____how men?_________[ IN AN UNDERSTANDING WAY]

Conclusion

Husbands we are commanded to treat our wives with love,

to understand that we are physically stronger

and should NEVER seek to overpower them.

The penalty for not obeying is to have our prayers hindered

GOD WILL REFUSE TO ANSWER THEM.

GOD will not bless those in position of authority who abuse their power

Let me leave you today with a verse for upcoming that explains where Peter is going

1 peter 3:12 “12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer.

But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.””

TREAT YOUR WIFE RIGHT —

that is the PURPOSE of this message

and GOD’S Word

look at your wife — go ahead — trust me

will you simply trust me and I promise this is GOLD

IT WILL CHANGE YOUR MARRIAGE

IT WILL GLORIFY GOD by GROWING OTHERS IN CHRIST
