Gods view of adultery

Matthew 5:27–30
Joke
The closer we draw to Jesus the more sinful we are going to realize we are.
We will see a good example of this in our passage today
as Jesus exposes the nature of mankind.
Jesus is going to explain the truth about the 7th commandment
Exodus 20:14 NKJV
“You shall not commit adultery.
The truth about this commandment is found inside the heart.
Today we are going to TAKE A DEEP DIVE into our hearts with regard to sexual immorallity.
This is a HARD SERMON because we are going to be exposed as sinners.
But stay locked in until the very end because you will see that Grace wins every time.
Before we give you the good news we need to unwrap our first point.

You are guilty of Adultery.

Matthew 5:27–28 ESV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
You have heard, but I say. Authority
Adultery- The act of sexual unfaithfulness in a marriage.
Penalty is death.
Leviticus 20:10 NKJV
‘The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death.
Jesus EXTENDS the commandment to include the sin in the heart that causes a man to commit the external act.
This sin in the heart deals with sexual immorallity
looking at a woman with lust is condemns you as guilty of adultery.
Q. what does it mean to look at a women with lust.
Lust means to desire
so when you look at a woman who is not your wife with sexual desire you are lusting after her.
this does not mean that you will not be tempted to desire.
If your eyes are drawn to a woman and you are tempted to look, you have a way of escaping the sin.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
You may escape sin by fleeing from it and looking away.
This is not sin.
But If you entertain the temptation, you have now looked at a woman to lust after her.
it is the difference between involantiry and intentional.
Now I know all the wives are amening right now but your not off the hook. This applies to you as well.
example- two men walk by a sexual woman dressed prevocatively. both mens eyes are drawn to the beauty of the woman. Man A turns away quickly because he knows it is sin to look at her with lust. Man B stares at her for a long time and meditates about how beautiful she is.
Man B is the natural man.
before you start to condemn this man you must realize that you all have been man B.
some of you are still man B every day.
Jesus shuts down any man who thinks that he is right before God because he has never cheated on his wife.
He demolishes the self righteous man.
Jesus Makes all of mankind guilty of adultery.
In doing so He points to our need for a savior.
For the laws purpose is to expose our sin and show our need for forgivness in Jesus.
In the following verses we are going to see Jesus lay down a battle plan of repentance

War against Sin

Matthew 5:29–30 NKJV
If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
Jesus has already addressed the problem that is in the heart.
He is now addressing the things that stir that temptation that is after your heart.
Sin is like a sleeping dog and the enemy is doing whatever he can to wake him up.
and its not hard because mans nature is sin
James 1:13–14 NKJV
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
If your heart is not dealt with you will be tempted by your own desires for sexual immorality and enticed.
one way that you will be enticed is through the eyes.
with your eyes you see the world and everything in it. This includes things that will lead you into sexual immorality.
S. Story of anthony at the gym
Jesus tells us to pluck out our eye for it is better to repent from our sin than to end up in hell.
He then tells us to cut off our right hand if it leads us to sin.
in a similar way as the eyes, we use our hands to act upon the sin in our hearts.
Jesus tells us it is better to cut off our hand than to continue in sin and end up in hell.
Q. Is he telling us to literally cut off our hand and pluck out our eye.
No he is telling us to wage war against our sin,
Whatever it is that is playingf a part in your sin is to be dealt with in the most serious manner.
Q. Are you tempted to lust?
Q. What are some things you can cut out in order to wage war against your sin.
Are you lusting at the gym? cut it out
Is that co worker flirting with you? draw away from that person.
are you watching pornography? get a flip phone.
James 4:7 NKJV
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Submission to God includes a repentance of the mind.
An admition that you have a problem with sin.
The war on sin then includes an act of resistance.
Make the decision to turn away from these sins of lust and sexual immorality.
Identify the enemy and make a battle plan.

There is good news

from these verses we can come to terms with the fact that Mans heart is despretely wicked
Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV
“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
We know mans heart is a result of the fall.
We need a new heart in order to fight against our sinful nature of adultery.
We see this promise in
Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
This was a promise to Israel but it also applies to all whom put their faith in Jesus.
When we made that decision to follow Jesus we were given a new heart.
We were given the victory over sin.
God is able to work with this new heart hat is flesh and not stone.
So If you are struggling with this particular sin, today is the day of repentance.
You can have victory over your sin.
Wage war by cutting out the temptations but also commit it to prayer.
What seems impossible is made possible with God.
Now I want Address those struggling with shame and guilt from past or present sexual sin.
You need to know that Christ died for you.
every sexually immoral thing you have done was forgiven the moment you believed the gospel.
He died on the cross to pay the price for your sexual sin.
S. story of pornogrophy.
this includes the sin that you commited 5 years ago, today, and 5 years from now.
past. present, future.
This Gospel is what gives us the power to repent and the power to live in peace.
When we understand the magnitude of our position before God as perfectly righteous
on the merit of Jesus Christ
then , by faith, we want to turn away from our sin.
We see the magnitude of grace and it changes us.
this does not mean we wont face sexual sin but it does mean that we will have a lifestyle of repentance from sexual sin.
In other words, we will have salvation from an adulterous heart.

conclusion

in this passage Jesus has condemed us all as guilty of adultery.
The wage of sin is death.
this is a spiritual death.
all mankind are sinners.
God shows his concern for you to wage war against sin.
It is better to pluck out your eye than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
But Jesus came so that you would have life and forgivness from sin.
He came to save you from sexual sin and all sin for that matter
And this is the good news.
