Work as Worship
Humanity as Unique
Marriage as Sacred
Genesis 1:27-2:3 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested …”

Dominion and Provision

What is the Dominion Mandate?
How do we abuse dominion?
God’s good provision
God RESTS in and from His provision

What God’s Work Reveals

He is creative, ingenious, technically proficient
He cares about beauty
Work is intended to be a means of knowing Him more fully

Work as Worship

We are intended to reflect God’s nature through our work
attitudes toward work
negative- work as a curse
positive- work as an act of worship
Eric Liddel clip- Chariots of Fire- “I feel His pleasure when I run”

Sin Stains Work

too little work
loathing work
too much work (no rest)
idolizing work
working from weakness instead of strength

Sabbath

“God rested” is significant
We rest from work, and work from rest
intended to help us call to mind our Creator

Jesus’ Work

Jesus demonstrates:

obedient work

hard work

carpenter

rabbi

confronting pharisees

redeeming work

tender work

women

children

lowly (sick, poor)

Not Moralism
Jesus' example brings glory to God
