Recap:
Last week we covered creation.
How YHWH our God created the Heavens, and the Earth.
How YHWH created other gods to serve Him in the Heavens, and humans to serve him here on Earth.
We talked about the fall of Humanity.
Adam and Eve.
The serpent that tricked them.
And the consequences of it all.
We talked about how those created gods rebelled against YHWH and bred with humans to try and vie for power.
About Noah and the flood.
And how Humanity tried to rebel again by forcibly taking our seat on Gods council.
And How God divorced humanity, there at the tower of babel, and gave humans over to lesser gods.
And we ended on God taking 1 man out of Babylon as His inheritance.
A man we know as Abraham.
Now, the story continues.
Abraham
Abraham
Abraham is far from perfect.
He makes a lot of mistakes, a lot of dumb decisions.
But ultimately Abraham is obedient and loyal to YHWH.
Because of this, God makes a covenant with Abraham.
A promise.
That Abrahams descendants will become a great nation.
Now, Abraham has a hard time believing this because his wife, Sarah, is barren.
She cant have children.
None the Less, God promises that Abraham and Sarah will have a child, and their line will become a great nation.
Several years pass, and eventually, when Abraham and Sarah are both old, Sarah gives birth to a son whom they name Issac.
Its at this point that God commands Abraham to do something crazy.
After all this time, waiting for a child, God tells Abraham to take Issac, his son, up to a mountain and sacrifice him to God.
Abraham obeys, and up on a mountain, with Issac tied up we read:
Then Abraham reached out his hand, took the knife, and prepared to slaughter his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am!” he answered. “Do not harm the boy!” the angel said. “Do not do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God because you did not withhold your son, your only son, from me.”
God was testing Abraham.
And hinting at things to come.
Because the descendant of Eve who will crush the serpent must come from a people founded on obedience to God.
So God declares:
Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.”
It was decided.
The decree was passed.
The champion humanity needs will come from Abrahams line.
