Acts 2:1–2 CSB
When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying.
In the first chapter of Acts I established that there were three things that we saw in the first chapter and would continue to see all throughout the rest of the book of Acts and really the whole New Testament. Those three things were that
They remained obedient to God
They remained in prayer to God
They remained in fellowship together
and they were on a united front. They were all with one accord in one place: They were gathered together sharing the same heart, the same love for God, the same trust in His promise. This shows us that before we can be filled, we must recognize our emptiness; and by gathering together for prayer, in obedience, these disciples did just that. They recognized they did not have the resources in themselves to do what they could do or should do; they had to instead rely on the work of God. Verse two tells us suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven and it filled the whole house where they were staying. The whole point is that, through the spirit, some of the creative power of God himself comes from heaven to earth and does its work there. The aim is not to give people a ‘spirituality’ which will make the things of earth irrelevant. The point is to transform earth with the power of heaven, starting with those parts of ‘earth’ which consist of the bodies, minds, hearts and lives of the followers of Jesus—as a community: notice that, in verse 1, Luke stresses the fact that they were all together in one place; the spirit comes, not to divide, but to unite. The references to “wind” and “fire” are significant. The word for “Spirit” is the word translated “wind” here. It also means breath. Both “spirit” and “wind” or “breath”—mean  “to blow, to breathe.” The sound like the blowing of a violent wind … from heaven points to the power of the Holy Spirit and the fullness of His coming. This makes my spirit do back flips when I think about it because God is breathing His spirit not just on them but in them. Every single Jewish person who heard or read what Luke wrote right here would 100% think of the time when God breathed his breath of life into Adam and Eve his new creation.
Genesis 2:7 CSB
Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
This time God is breathing his Holy Spirit into the 120 but also into his church that is established by the blood of Jesus Christ and is the new covenant. So Luke is telling us that God is breathing his spirit into the men and women who were in the upper room that day. The wind also stood for the power of God in a literal sense but also it is showing how powerful the spirit of God is within us. A hurricane a tornado is driven by wind, and they are some of the most powerful forces on earth and church when the Holy Spirit of God is at work in each one of us and we're on fire for God we are powerful because of that spirit that lives in us. In John 3:8 Jesus talks about the spirit.
John 3:8 CSB
The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
Like the wind, the Spirit is invisible but powerful; and you cannot explain or predict the movements of the wind.
When Jesus used this symbol, Nicodemus should have readily remembered Ezekiel 37:1–14. The prophet saw a valley full of dead bones; but when he prophesied to the wind, the Spirit came and gave the bones life. Again, it was the combination of the Spirit of God and the Word of God that gave life. The nation of Israel was dead and hopeless; but in spite of the morality and religion of the people, they needed the life of the Spirit.
The new birth from above is a necessity (“Ye must be born again”), but it is also a mystery. Everyone who is born of the Spirit is like the wind: you cannot fully explain or predict either the wind or the child of God! Each new life is exciting and different. When we follow God as most of you probably know there's no guarantees or sure routines. God calls us to do things we never thought that we would do we never thought we could do and when you surrender to the Lord and your life is not your life anymore you are surrendering to God who puts his spirit within you and just like the wind he takes you places you didn't know you were going, and just like the day of Pentecost the wind who is the Holy Spirit of God is in us today and its powerful. Then the last part of verse two says that the wind filled the entire room. It was a sound like a violent mighty rushing wind, but it didn’t just blow through the place, it filled the entire room. That’s the presence of God still to this very day. It lives in us and wants to fill us entirely and then it comes in and His presence fills the place entirely. If you have Jesus living inside you, you are never alone , if you have Jesus inside you, you have a mighty Spirit that moves like a rushing wind and if you allow it to lead you , you will walk in His power, you will talk with His boldness, you will love with his love you will overcome by His might you will understand by his communication you will witness by his authority you will be born of the spirit and the flesh will not appeal to you so all it says it a sound like a mighty rushing wind filled the entire room but what it meant was so much more.
