Gospels
There are 4 Gospels saying one Gospel
Gospel = Good News
Good News = Jesus Christ
Died for our sins so that we won’t go to Hell, but have Eternal Life with Him.
The Gospel of John was written to persuade people to believe in Jesus
John 1:1–3 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Confusing on the surface, but it’s actually so simple.
Word actually means Logos. Which, in this case was a word very common to whom it was being written to, Hebrews and Greeks.
The beginning was the word not created, was.
Who is this Word? Jesus
God has created everything with Jesus.
John 1:4–5 ESV
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
V4-5 - Jesus is life and the light.
John 1:6–8 ESV
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
V6 - V8, there was guy name John, John the Baptist who came prior to Christ, around 6 months. This is not the same John as the author.
John 1:9–10 ESV
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
V9-10 Jesus, was the true light and He was coming into the world even though they did not know Him yet.
John 1:11–13 ESV
11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
V11-13 - Many did not believe He was the son of God, even though they were told the truth. Those who did believe became Children of God.
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
V14-15 - This word became flesh and was apart of us. There were eye witnesses and they saw Jesus. They saw the son of God.
John 1:18 ESV
18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
V16-18 Translating this more simply, the old testament law is fulfilled by Jesus. No one has seen God the being, but we have seen God the person. Trinity.
