Step forward
John 18:1-4 (ESV) When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron,
2 Samuel 15:23  (ESV)
23 And all the land wept aloud as all the people passed by, and the king crossed the brook Kidron, and all the people passed on toward the wilderness. King David exiled from his throne over 200 year ago after being betrayed by his family
where there was a garden, (Adam) which he and his disciples entered.2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?”
Before he stepped for he knew what he was getting into
Jesus Knew what would happen
The sign of betrayal
Psalm 41:9 ( ESV)
9 Even my close friend in whom I trusted,     who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.

11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.
Matthew 26:53  (ESV)
53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
So today we are called to step forward too
Step forward in sharing the gospel, step forward in being a better spouse in our marriages, step forward to being better parents, step forward in admitting our sin.. why?
Step Forward: Jesus is worthy
John 18:5-6 (ESV) 5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6 When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
John 18:3 (ESV) 3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

Q
Jesus says.. I am ego imee
Exodus 3:14  (ESV)
14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[a] And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
Why did they fall?
John Calvin
We may infer from this how dreadful and alarming to the wicked the voice of Christ will be, when he shall ascend his throne to judge the world. At that time he stood as a lamb ready to be sacrificed; his majesty, so far as outward appearance was concerned, was utterly gone; and yet when he utters but a single word, his armed and courageous enemies fall down.
Isaiah 11:4  (ESV) and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,  and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.
How much more when Jesus comes not as a lamb but as a King will his words send us to our faces.. He is worthy!
He was fully human yet fully devine
Love by the Father, the true son, the light of the world
The bread of life,
I mean how wothy is Jesus
Revelation 5:11-14 (ESV)
11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
Those solders Knew he was telling the truth.. knew they were full of sin.
The Greek here means they where pinned to the ground…
Perhaps for a mere moment they saw Jesus in all his Glory
Perhaps because
Jesus willingly gave himself over they saw his Majesty.. bright as the sun.
Step forward because Jesus is worthy
Step Forward: Jesus Keeps His word
John 18:7-9 (ESV)
7 So he asked them again, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” 8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.” 9 This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: “Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.”
John 17:12  (ESV)
12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
1 Corinthians 10:13  (ESV)
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Philippians 4:11-13,19 (ESV)
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Step Forward: Jesus knows the plan
John 18:10-11 (ESV)
10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant[ and cut off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”
Peter used the wrong weapon, he had poor motives, and accomplished the wrong result.

2 Timothy 1:7  (ESV)
7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
John Piper said, ““True self-control is not about bringing our selves under our own control, but under the power of Christ.”
Matthew 26:52,54  (ESV)
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.  54 But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?”
Jesus willingly keeps his word to his Father and all of creation he bears the cup
For my Mandalorion friends.. he tells Peter
This is the way
2 Corinthians 5:14  (ESV)
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died;
Today Step forward.. (symbol) Follow Jesus
