Big Idea: Seeking God’s purposes in our suffering
Doctrine: Suffering
I could stand up here and list off all the way I have experienced suffering…but the truth is- while I have had suffering- every single one of you has your own story of suffering…many of which I cannot imagine- because I have not walked in your shoes, nor do I pretend to.
But the good news, is today, I’m not here to give you my personal thoughts or experiences on suffering. Today we are here to see what scripture says about suffering and God’s purpose’s in it.
Because while I don’t know the purpose of your suffering, I know the one who does- so today- together- so let’s open up his word.
The truth is- if you have suffered, no one has suffered exactly as you did because everyone’s circumstances and perspectives are unique.
So- if you have a tendency to say- well, I haven’t suffered as much as that person, so I need to just stuff my feelings and get over it.
I want you to first off want to give you the freedom to acknowledge that you have suffered…and say that your suffering matters…it matters to those who love you, and most importantly it matters to God.
While we may not know exactly what you have experienced…God does..
One author defined suffering as: __________________
If you are human..you have suffered.
My intention here is not to minimize anyone’s suffering or blow anyone’s suffering out of proportion.
But I want to invite all of us the space to acknowledge your hurt so you can receive the message today: (AIM)
