Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus to you? What do you know about him?
Isaiah 9:6–7 NIV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
What do you think it means that the Government will be on his shoulders?
Do you like our goverment?
Jesus is above all kingdoms, think of a King. Imagine a king on a throne and you are in his throne room. What do you feel?
Now imagine the King is actually related to you, he is your father or brother or grandpa. How do you feel now?
Now imagine that King was like that for all people, how do you think the kingdom would react?
So Jesus is the esablisher of a Good goverment, or kingdom. One that is perfect and for you in every way.
So if He is making a Perfect kingdom, how does that make you feel?
How should you perpare to enter into that Kingdom?
Can we be perfect too?
John 14:6 NIV
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
So if we are to go the fathers throne room what does that mean?
Can I read to you this parable of a wedding banquet? Its in Matthew 22:1-14 and as I read again I want you to imagine everything that is happening:
Matthew 22:1–14 NIV
Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”
From this parable who is Jesus?
He is a messagner for the party, you got a invitation for God the fathers party at the throne room.
Now lets look at the why does it matter?
So this parable what happens?
What is the take away from it?
What is the cost of not accepting the wedding clothes?
Retorical question do you feel like you have not put on the clothes to follow Jesus and are going to be thrown outside?
Let me tell you one more verse that really explains Jesus in fullness:
1 Timothy 2:5 NIV
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
Jesus is the one who actually says, you see these people, invite them.
Why does that matter?
Who do you think Jesus loves? who does he die for?
See Jesus dies on the cross and he dies for other people, his death was not a permant good bye but rather was a invitation. The invitation to the throne room and the party. That he would die so that you could be invited. However he rises again to prove that he is who he said he was, God’s one and only Son who would do his work for him.
So imagine this again:
You see the king and suddenly the doors of the throne room fly open and incomes the prince, who gives you the riches, the greatest meal, the best bedroom to stay in. The king sitting on the throne just smiles and nods as you are given all these gifts.
That is Jesus: He came to give us these great blessings, the gifts of eternal life, the gifts of being able to leave the wrong things we did and put on the clothes that say “Hey I’m here with the rest of you” You are invited to the throne room. Jesus is handing you that invitation, it’s up to you to accept it.
How does that make you feel, be honest.
Why should Jesus matter in your life based off these stories?
What does the next steps look like for you?
Pray.
