Title: “Reset”
Gates of Your Mind
I used to play video games growing up as a kid. I was a horrible sport when it came to them. If I wasn’t winning nobody was..... I know,” pastor you used to cheat and be a bad sport.... yes.” But we aren’t here to talk about me, lol... so stop judging me.... I see you.... you are judging me hard right now, but you know what I bet I could find some things that you probably cheated on or “modified” today or in times past for your own benefit mine was video games and all sports... I hated to lose, but nevertheless. There would be times when I would play these video games by myself or with friends and family, and if I started losing I had the console on the floor and I would (with my toe) hit the “reset” button causing the game to restart giving me a fresh opportunity to win... in which most times I would... that’s if they decided not to play anymore.... I know horrible. This lesson is not about how to cheat in life, but how to get the proper reset we need in our minds. I used this illustration today to lighten us up a little before we got into the more heavy and serious stuff..... so let’s turn to our text for today.
Text: Philippians 2: 1-5; (Emphasis 2,5)
We, in some of the most impressionable years of our lives are from birth-3 years old and then it jumps to pre-teenage to late teen years. You may think that you have gotten to this point perfectly, but what if I told you that you can become better? Upon reading the text there were things that stuck out to me that just would’ve made sequential and logical sense.....
Romans 12:2 the reason why you are seeing such a climb in senior pastor suicides is because of a failure to fully reset. We all need them from the front of this place to the rear and side to side. You can not live this life mentally hoarding experiences and expect every mental event to dissolve without any accountability.
Always remember this for the rest of this 6-week series and beyond,” Resolution must come before dissolution.” It will not go away without answers. You can push it to the side all you want, you can cast it down, up, out, and over, but at the end of the day whatever your resolve is, it must be met with your agreement to commit to seeing it as the answer and never to allow yourself to resurrect it again.
How do we clear out the cavity of the mind?
We read this in Philipians 2:5 filling up the mind of Terrance with the mind of Jesus Christ. You really have to view each gate we discuss like a room. Is it well manicured, or is it junky and smelly like a high school jocks bedroom?
Let’s take this scripture also across our series
Luke 11:24-26
24When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. 26Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.”
What is in the room that is secured by my mind gate? Insecurities, failures that we have allowed to hold us hostage, memories of trauma that we have yet to get the courage to deal with and evict from our “room”?
I leave you with this today make the decision to leave here with a renovated room and leave Holly Spirit in its place les lest your place be made into rooms. Now get this your decision to do this today is what I would call to your mind it’s best “mindwarming” gift you could give it. You can frame this decision in your mind and hang it on the wall as a reminder that this gate is secured by Holy Spirit, and that my mind no longer occupies clutter that is not conducive for healthy relationships with myself or others.
The Bible declares
2 Corinthians 10:5
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
James 1:8
He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
It is impossible to have the mind of Christ and the mind of Terrance in operation and it lead to a successful lifestyle, and a holistic God-centered ministry. Lacking stability in our thought process leads to the indication that God is not leading our life matters.
We say things when our members aren’t consecrated to the will of God like,” sometimes it just has a mind of its own...” if you’re not careful that will become your lifestyle everything you do that is not do e through the leading of God will be seen as,” these decisions I don’t know why they came about, but I find my myself a slave to these thoughts without control, because it has a MIND OF ITS OWN!” If thoughts had their own mind that would determine that the mind of Christ is the enemy of your thoughts. Thoughts come from somebody’s mind. Of thoughts have an origin and they do them not we have just debunked the battlefield of our mind Dr. Joyce Meyers 😆. If you’re thoughts don’t line up with the intellect and the biblical mind of Christ how are we operating?
If your mind isn’t submitted to the mind of Christ it most certainly will have a I did it’s own!
My closing point use the stage wall as an indicator of our gate upgraded to the highest level and how Holy Spirit not only build up hedges according to Palm 91, but the places in between serve as a sign of being covered even in those places. The mind can only become impenetrable until we let the Incredible One IN totally.
Philippians 4:8 English Standard Version (ESV)
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Teaching them principles of building and preserving your gates. (Soul, Eyes, Ears, Mind, Mouth, and Heart)
