25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Worry is an awful thing. It seem to be something that all people go through at sometime in their life.
That anxious feeling
The upset stomach
sweats
racing heart
loss of appetite
Maybe different things trigger this?
Bad news?
Work?
Certain people?
Places?
Noises?
Certain thoughts?
Past?
Things tomorrow ?
How do we beat worry? How can over come what seems to affect everyone? Can I tell you that in Jesus we can find the solution for worry?
Let’s look at what Jesus says about this subject in Matthew 6.
The Causes of worry
Appetite (Matthew 6:25, 26) - “eat, feed”
Hunger or the fear of it is a cause of worry
“will I be fed?”, appetites met?
Jesus addresses this concern by pointing them to nature!
Look at nature ( Matthew 6:26)
God won’t feed the chickens and starve the children.
If he can care for them he can care for us!
Jesus will go on to even tell his followers that obedience to God is better than food!
John 4:34
Apparel ( Matthew 6:25, 28-29)
Worrying about what will be worn.
Maybe to look cool or avoid being cold
Jesus again refers to nature! (Matthew 6:28 -30 )
If God can provide for flowers that will wither and burn will he not take care of us?
They were better provided for than Solomon!
Paul will tell us that all we need to be content is food and clothes
1 Tim 6 9
Appearance (Matthew 6:27 )
“If I could change this about myself”
Jesus teaches us that even if we were to worry about it there is nothing we can do to change it!
in essence don’t worry about what only God can do or has done
A reminder for those who do worry about their appearance
God made you and did great at it!
Psalm 139:14
The Consequences of worry
Worry is faithless
Worry occurs when we
don’t Consider God
don’t Seek God
trust ourselves
Worry is Godless
When all we are worried about is food, clothes, and stuff we are living as essentially Godless people
sinful anxiety is functional atheism- HB Charles
Jesus says it well in John 14:1
Worry is not harmless
Worry is also sin
Harms us
Hurts the heart of God
The Cure for worry
We must remember our Father (Matthew 6:32)
A good father! Matt 7:11
We must fix our Focus (Matthew 6:33 )
We are to not seek these things on this Earth
rather seek God and his kingdom!
How?
Make him and his will priority!
Live like he is your king!
He’ll provide!
“First”
Seek him before anything else!
We must have Faith (Matthew 6:34)
Trust him for tomorrow and don’t worry about it!
We are to have faith in him!
Gal 3:11
We can trust our Lord! We can win over worry! Seek HIM!
