a. Who joined Paul in this epistle? (vs. 1)

b. How did Paul address the church? (vs. 1)
i. The church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
c. How often did Paul pray for them? Vs 2-3
i. Always without ceasing.

Chapter 2
II. Vs. 1-12 Reflection concerning Paul’s Conduct.
a. Vs. 1-8 Paul’s Ministry to the Thessalonians.
i. Read Vs. 1-2 Paul’s Contention./ Read Acts 16:16-24/ After is 17:1-11
ii. What: Paul preached for three weeks in Thessalonica some believed which were devout Greeks and chief women; but the Jews were furious and caused and uproar that Paul had to get out of town quickly at night.
1. What did the brethren know of his entrance to them? Vs 1
a. His preaching was not vain.
b. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
2. How did Paul preach at Philippi? Vs 2
a. Boldly
3. Application: As Christians we must always preach and teach Gods Word boldly, and always know our labor is not in vain. There can come times where we face contention for telling people the truth, some do not like their toes stepped on. But we must speak the Gospel which has the power to change people.
iii. Read Vs. 3-4 Paul Duty.
1. What was Paul in trusted with? The Gospel
2. How did they not preach? Like the pleasing men
3. Application: As Christians we have been in trusted with the Gospel after we have put on Christ in baptism. Now there is work to do!! We must now teach people the things which were taught to us. We have been in trusted with The Gospel.
iv. Read Vs. 5-8 Paul’s Gentleness
1. Notice how Paul did not preach- Not flattery words, not cloke of covetousness, and not seeking glory of men.
2. How do a lot of religions teach today? Specially those TV evangelist!!
3. But Paul was Gentle.
4. What was Paul’s gentleness referred to? Vs 7
a. As nurse cherish a child.
5. Think about a nurse or mom bottle feeding a child- if they are mean and rough do you think the child will eat? No the child going to be throwing a fit. Paul was being gentle by preaching with love.
6. What was Paul willing to share or impart with them?
a. The gospel and their own life.
7. Application: As Christians we must never teach, preach, or do good works to seek glory from men but from God. This means when we do something to help someone, or when we teach someone the Gospel; we should never get puffed up or want a pat on the back.
8. We are here to seek glory from God. When teaching someone the Gospel, we need to teach them with love and be gentle.
9. Think about when you were taught the Gospel, most likely someone taught you gently or you probably would not be here today.
10. We must also be willing to share the Gospel with anyone and not just pick our favorites. Paul had so much love he was risking his life for them to receive the good news.
b. Read Vs. 9-12 Paul’s Behavior
1. Notice Paul labored day and night to them with the Gospel.
2. Notice how he says ye are witnesses.- they saw him working day and night, they saw the affliction he faced from Jews and how he had to pack up and leave at night.
3. In vs 5 we see God was a witness for how he spoke the Gospel and not flattering Words, but now he points out and you were as well.
4. Who were Paul’s witnesses? Vs , 10
a. They and God.
5. How did Paul behave among them? Vs 10
a. Holy, just, and unblamely.
6. How did Paul treat them? Vs 11
a. As a Father.
7. Paul was gentle as a mother,nurseing and exhorted and comforted them as a father.
8. Why did Paul treat them this way? Vs 12
a. So, they would walk worthy of God.
b. Cr- Ephesians 4:1 Walk worthy of your calling.
9. Application: As Christians we should labor for God both day and night and should always watch our behavior while working with people.
10. We want to be a light to people and not a hinder to them.
11. We should treat someone as if we are a parent by wanting the best for their souls.
12. In order to do that we have to be gentle and comforting while we teach them.
13. Part of us walking worthy of our calling is teaching people the good news which was delivered unto us.
III. Vs. 13-20 Reflection concerning Paul’s Concern.
a. Vs. 13-16 Paul’s Thankfulness.
i. Read Vs. 13
ii. Why was Paul so thankful for them? Vs 13
1. They received the Word as truth from God.
iii. How did they not receive the Word? Vs 13
1. As if it were from men.
iv. How does the Holy Spirit work in us? Vs 13
1. Through the Word of God.
v. Notice: Which effectively works in you!!
1. Cr- Rom 1:16, Heb 4:12,
vi. What is truth?
1. John 17:17
vii. Application: As Christians we need to make sure when studying the Bible with someone that we are pointing them to the scriptures. We must never tell them what the Bible says but show them what the Bible says. The power is in the Word, and not in our own words.
viii. The only way we can get God’s Word in us is by getting into the book until the book gets into us.
ix. The same way goes to those we study with, they need to get the Word in them by studying the Scriptures for themselves.
b. Read Vs. 14-16 Paul’s Warning
i. What did their acceptance of the Word lead too? Vs 14
1. They became followers of God.
ii. Is the church of God a Scriptural name? vs 14
1. It is! But must follow the Bible!!!
iii. What were their country men causing them to do? Vs 14
1. To suffer
iv. Background- Acts 17:13 Jews stirring up people.
v. What had the Jews done? Vs 15
1. Killed the Lord Jesus,
2. the prophets,
3. and persecuted us.
vi. Who did the Jews please? Vs. 15B
1. Themselves, not God or the Gentiles
vii. What did the Jews not want? Vs 16
1. The Gentiles to be saved.
viii. What will happen to these false teachers? Vs 16
1. Wrath come upon them to the uttermost. The wrath of God.
ix. Application: As Christians once we become followers of God, we will run into people who will cause us suffering.
x. There are tons of false teachers in our world who are following things of this world that please themselves.
xi. We must not be conformed to the world but transformed and looking to spiritual things from above.
xii. Those who cause us to suffer will face consequences for their actions but leave vengeance to God almighty.
c. Vs. 17-20 Paul’s desire to see them.
i. Read Vs. 17-18 Paul’s Desire.
1. They were forced away in Acts 17:10, later put in prison, but longed to be with them!! People can take us away, put us in prison, but cannot take away our relationship from one another.
2. What was Paul’s attitude to see them? Vs 17
a. Endeavoring to see your face with great desire.
3. Do we have this attitude toward our brothers and sister? After being separated a couple days longing to see their face again with great desire?? Why Wednesday Nights are important??
4. Who hindered Paul from visiting them?
a. Satan.
5. How did Satan hinder Paul?
a. We do not know
6. Application: As Christians we should desire to see our church family, coming to worship should be something we desire to do not only to worship God but to be with the brethren.
7. We must always remember Satan is trying to do everything he can to get between us and the brethren.
8. We must always have our Christian armor on and ready to fight in this spiritual warfare.
ii. Read Vs. 19-20 Paul’s Comfort.
1. How did Paul view the Thessalonians? (19-20)
a. His hope, joy, and crown of rejoicing in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ at His coming
b. His glory and joy
2. What is our hope?
a. 2nd coming
3. Paul ends every chapter with reference to the second coming.
4. Then notice how Paul end with, “ye are our glory and crown.” Literally their faith which is spoken of everywhere as he starts chapter is their glory and joy.
5. Application: As Christians we have hope knowing that Christ was raised from the dead and will return to gather us with Him for eternity.
