Day 2: What is Evangelism

Evangelism is Sharing The gospel message as revealed by God

Galatians 1:11–12 ESV
For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
Though humans may proclaim the Gospel, the power, authority, and origin are strictly from God
The message is our job, God converts

The gospel message centers on Jesus Christ

Love is not the focus
Charity is not the focus
Paradise is not the focus
Though all of these things are important elements of the Gospel
The work of Jesus Christ is the focus!

It is the announcement of God’s kingdom

Acts 28:31 (ESV)
[Paul} proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
Jesus is the introduction to, the establishment of, and the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom

It is the means by which God’s promises are fulfilled in Jesus Christ

Luke 4:18–19 ESV
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
The Gospel is accompanied by many things. But those things are only available through the Gospel

Key Elements of Evangelism

No matter how we get there, this is the “good news” or evangelism

Proclamation of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 ESV
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
There is no evangelism or Gospel message without the death and resurrection of Jesus.

The Gospel is the announcement of God’s salvation

Romans 1:16–17 ESV
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
This is the why of the Gospel. Why did Jesus die?

The call to repentance for the forgiveness of sins

Luke 24:47 ESV
and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
The is the anticipated response to the Gospel
an acceptance of the Gospel leads to a new life

The announcement of peace with God

Acts 10:36 ESV
As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),
And this is the result of the Gospel.
Yes you may be healed, freed, and/or blessed many times over, but the great reward is peace with God!
