and I want to just

Give you some reason as to why the main application. We talked about this Sunday. It's not how the Lord. Gets us out of the storm and calms the storms. That's not the main application of the story and maybe we can shed some light as to why that is. Most rain again in Mark chapter 4 verse 35,

Says, on the same day. When evening have come, he said to them. Let us cross over to the other side and when they had left the multitude, they took him along in the boat and see what. And other little boats were also with him and a great wind storm arose and the waves beat into the boat so that so that it was already feeling. But he was in the stern asleep on a pillow and they awoke him and said to him teacher, do not care. That he that we are perishing. And then he arose and rebuked the wind and said to the Sea, peace be still and the wind ceased and there was a great calm. They said to them. Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? and they feared exceedingly and said to one another, who can this be that even the Wind and Sea obey him? So, we look at that particular story there, which is again, one of my favorite stories in, in really all the New Testament. One of the most popular ones call, Jesus calmed, the storm. And again, this was not just a typical thunderstorm, this was a as Matthew calls it. A great Tempest. It was a great seismic storm with great wind that shook the entire Sea of Galilee. It was one that even these experienced fisherman could not handle Too so much so that they were afraid for their very lives. They thought for sure this was going to be yet. Maybe y'all remember? What do you call those?

Boats that also travel on the land. Yeah, I'm in. Fabian are craft whatever it is in Branson. Yeah, yeah, the Ducks. I guess is about 45 years ago where they were out in the water. Big storm, came overwhelmed. I believe one of these these ducks there. I forget how many dry ounces of awful thing, but it just shows you how vulnerable, you know things are boats are in the water and that was a small wave. We can't imagine how this boat that the fishermen are on or on a much larger boat than that one in Branson was But this was a, a major storm. and, As I said Sunday, that this is often times and I have preached it many times, namely as being the main application, being how Jesus calms the storm in my life. But again, that's not the main message of it. If you were here, Sunday, you know that the main message was that this was a declaration to Jesus disciples. This was a another sign that what Jesus has been saying is true. And that being in verse 41, And they feared exceedingly and said to one another, who can this be that even the wind and the Sea obey him? So, they knew that only God. Could stop the wind. Only God could stop the winner of the rain and only gone to calm the Sea. And the way the scripture reads, there were talks about peace. Be still, there was a sudden, You think about a wave pool and you got all the waves in at the waves. The motion. You still have a long time for all the waves to come down? That's not the case here, you have a 1015 foot waves that all of a sudden, and the wall on the water. So this is something that is much like how the Hebrew children walk through the Red Sea on dry ground that parting the Red Sea is a miracle, right? But even though walking on dry ground is another miracle, that is hard to explain scientifically, it would be very difficult to explain and in really know

No explanation to it other than the laws of nature belong to God and he can do as he Wills. So this is a passage of scripture that declares that Jesus Christ is God in the disciples have seen this Prior to this time, right? They have seen Jesus heal the many sick. They had seen Jesus cast out demons. They had seen him do tremendous things and so you were saying, okay, why are they so scared? But yet what they saw here was a total Act that when he calmed the storm, they knew that it was God. so,

Why would we not think that this main message here? This main passage deals with Jesus calming the storms of our life. and I think the biggest reason is this How many people have you known? That have gone through storms. Going through heartache.

And they prayed, they have great faith. But Jesus never comes our storm. Jesus, never ceases the winds. He never calms the waves.

That can lead individuals to thinking. Wow. Maybe I don't have enough faith. And I can leave the person in the midst of a storm.

A little bit confused. because the pastor just preach that if you just have faith, then God will calm your storm and that's not true. And so this, the story here is not about Jesus calming the storms of our life. It is about the fact that Jesus is God in the flesh. and,

It's about having faith in him and him alone. And so sometimes God does not calms the storm in our life. But what he does do is this, he gives us the strength to endure it It gives us the grace to endure, remember Paul. Three times. He asked the Lord to remove that thorn is flashing. A lot of people don't know. We don't know exactly what that thorn in the flesh. Was some people believe it was his eyesight. I very well could be, we don't know what it was but he asked for three times and then finally, the Lord answered him and I said, hey my grace is sufficient for thee. So the Lord sometimes just gives us enough Grace to endure the storm of life. I was thinking about this today when I was out visiting that family that He's so I think he's 60 years old needs. A young young man. Dealing with this cancer. Raisin. Pentecostal Pentecostal is a min.

How many times that has he heard sermons down through the years of if you just had enough faith? And if you just believed enough, then the Lord would would heal you and so forth. and,

Now we should have faith in the Lord, yes, but it's not necessarily going to calm the storms of our life. It may be that God's will for your life is for you to go through storm after storm after storm. But through that, through that people are watching your life and they see the grace that has been bestowed upon you. They see how you have strength in the midst of weakness, was that be physical weakness, whatever the case is and you are a, a really a shining testimony. Two people around you.

So we don't take this message.

As a main text to say, well, Jesus will come the storms of your life because it's what he, he may not and guess what? Even if he does, come this storm. There going to be another one coming soon because that's just a life that we live in in this so sinful world. So, I was thinking about that this week, as I finished Sunday, and I know when I said on Sunday that this Maine tax is not about how Jesus calms the storms in my life and some of the folks were going. So I wanted to clarify that and we can use some application in that, but we cannot say that's the main application because it is not true that just because we are not fearful, or just because we have faith in God, that it automatically means that our storm will cease.

Any thoughts on that? That's just something. That's

I wanted to clarify.

again, this is a passage of scripture that really Displays. In a tremendous way, both his deity. His divinity and his Humanity, right? That I don't know of another passage of scripture that you see both. So, Finally, he was so much God that the winds and seas Abate him, but yet he was so much man that he could sleep in the midst of a storm.

And Matthew 42, Jesus is said to be hungry. And Mark 3:5. He got angry with the Pharisees. The scripture tells us and John chapter 11 at the tomb of Lazarus. Tomb of Lazarus. Jesus shed tears. He cried. And then also he died on the cross and we must never minimalize the Divinity of Christ. But we also must never minimalize the humanity of Christ. Jesus is 100% human.

And guess what? He's still human today, okay? That's kind of hard for us to fathom. But God, Jesus Christ has not ceased to be man. Remember the passage in in 1st Timothy where talks about our mediator Christ, Jesus, the man. And we don't think of that, but he is still a man. But he's the perfect, man. and,

He's going to have a body. That is still going to be showing the scars of calvary. It's going to be showing this to the scars of the nail prints in his feet and hands. So we don't minimize the humanity.

Just trying to see if.

Anything else?

so it another thought is, Why were the disciples afraid? Remember how afraid they were during the storm. They were so afraid that they thought they were going to die, they were really accusing Jesus of Questioning his concern for them, questioning his love for them. but when Jesus calms the storm, There, Their Fear switch from the storm to now, they fear the savior. Why do you think that is? Why do you think the Bible says that fear? They feared exceedingly?

Yeah. Yes.

Oh yeah.

Invincible themselves. But

I mean with the biggest kid on the Block,

that's right.

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah, those those are correct.

But notice. The question I asked. I feared exceedingly and said to one another, who can this be? That even the Wind and Sea obey him. So it seems as if they still are undecided. Who Jesus is? As far as. Jesus Christ, being the son of God. This is something that is going to become up again, in The Book of Mark, where they question. Okay, who is this?

It is not until later on that Peter makes his declaration. You know, Jesus asked the disciples. Who who who do men say that I am and some disciple said, well, some say that you are. Elijah some say, Isaiah, some say that you are John, the Baptist coming a reincarnated.

And then Jesus said, well, who do you say that I am and Peter gave that wonderful declaration. You are the Christ, the son of God. It's amazing to me that they feared exceedingly. And still asking at this point, who can this be?

but yeah, I think that they feared exceedingly because they knew that they were in the presence of God.

Even though they, they questioned exactly who Christ was. They knew that it was, he was God, I think they were there questioning

How can this be your, your, your your supposed to be the Messiah, that's going to lead us. Leave the children of Israel to have to conquer Rome. They're still not understanding.

what price messiahship really is going to look like, we think about, another boat scene that you see and Luke Chapter 5, where were The fisherman, Peter and Simon have been fishing all night long. They come back from fishing. and Jesus says to the M8, Go back out for catch. And Peter says whole no, no we fished all night Lord. And but Peter said, nevertheless, I thought word I will. and, you know, the story they caught so much for fish at their boats was was about to sink is about to take on water. and when that happened, Peter fell to his knees and said, oh Lord my God. So it's this overwhelming sense of being in the presence of God that causes a fear and and you could even say that this fear here is not a fear that there would be a fear of a A monster of our fear of some dangerous thing that this is a great reverential fear, that we are in the presence of God, much like Peter there, and Luke Chapter 5 being in the presence of God. He knew it and he fell and said, oh Lord, my God.

They finally realize they had the realization that he was the Messiah but they didn't equate that with being in the presence of God. Yeah.

Being in the presence of God was a fearful or a deadly. Absolutely, yes, yeah. They Jesus veiled is Divinity in Flash. There was one instance where he unveiled his flesh and they were able to see at least to some degree, his glory, remember where? That was the Mount of transfiguration. We're going to get to that. And Mark chapter 9 where Peter James and John are up on top of the mountain and hear the glory that's in Christ is revealed and they see him in the mark tells us that it's so white. He's so bright and so pure that even the the best laundry man of the day could not whiten these clothes like this And Peter said Lord it's good for us to be here. Let's build three temples one for you one, for Elijah one for Moses, you know and God speaks from Glory again God the father and says behold my son, listen to him. And so yeah that's that's a good point there. James of not really understanding what Jesus Messiah ship looks like and knowing then that they were in the presence of God.

Sure. Yeah, if you can if you can, storm, especially one of this magnitude. What else can you do? Man, you could buy one thought, kill me. I mean that's that's the idea, you your, your god of creation. And that's, that's a good. Good point there.

How about I mentioned in the sermon? That Jesus was. And how much the story here? Coincides, with the story of Jonah 1:4. Jonah 1:4, great windstorm.

The Mariners, the fishermen were afraid. Jonah was sleeping. It upset the captain of the of the ship and he got angry at Jonah. So, you have a lot of parallels. between Jonah Jesus says that hey, I'm the greater Jonah in the Book of Matthew tells the disciples that, what are some other things that you see, in the life of Jonah that Jesus Compares himself to, and why he is compared to Jonah.

Yeah, that's right. He was in the belly of the whale or the great fish or 3 days is on the third day that he was delivered.

so, that is a Tremendous parallel that especially his disciples would have understood that he is the true Jonah, he's the greater Jonah.

And the great question is, did Jonah die when he was in the belly of the whale, I believe you did. I think there's a lot of scripture to back that up that, if you read and Jonah, I believe in chapter 24 talks about that. He was in the the place of she older than the grave. So I believe he died and he was resurrected.

and, There he was spit out. And then Ava. And no doubt he was as white as a ghost because of all the gastric juices that's in the belly of a whale.

What we think about Jesus being the true Jonah. That he too was consumed by the stormy sea of God's Wrath. As he hung on the cross. But he endured the storm so that we could find peace and be saved. Jesus calm, the only storm. That could truly drown us. And that it is God's Wrath and judgment. He went down into the storm. Only to emerge three days later as the one who stilled the just And calm the righteous wrath of God against centers. So again, one of the reasons why I love the store so much because you see so much in just those few versus right there that reveal his Humanity. His divinity and even asked he Compares himself to Jonah, you think about how he has taken on the wrath of God. So that we might be free. alright, y'all have any

Other comments or questions concerning.

The passage of scripture.

remember where was it like when they came back and told him to go back out and then

like these guys are masters of their craft a fisherman. Oh yeah.

Right. That's right. Yeah yeah.

but, but

sure. What ya do to? So you got your speaking too experienced fisherman. And who is this, man? He's a carpenter from Nazareth. So I'm not, I'm not a mechanic but if I went to Countryside Motors and I said, hey Robby, Get out there. What? You're doing wrong here is you're not doing this right. Rob is going to say hey be quiet. You don't know what in the world you're talking about it. So that's that's really the mindset of Peter to Jesus. Hey, we we've done all night. We know it's better to fish at night in the cooler Waters. When the temperature outside is cooler than this, in the, in the daytime, and the Jesus for showing Peter. Hey I'm the god of creation. and if if I want fish in a net, they will come and

So yeah, another teachable moment that we see time and time again for these disciples and it's easier for us to look at them and say, my goodness, what a bunch of dummies, you know, but you put yourself in their shoes. They had no clue that how this was going to turn out and especially when Jesus begins to speak to them about his death that he was going to die. You know Peter said it can't be lured, it can't be and cuss Peter. Again had this mindset that the kingship of Christ was going to take place on the Earth right now.

But they did not fully understand. Until after the resurrection. And remember if they were in hiding after Jesus death. They thought it was completely over. Okay, here's this man that could heal. You calm the storms. He could even raise people from the dead. But how can a dead man raise himself?

but it was God, the Father according to Romans chapter 4, that raised the Sun from the grave It really amazing. And well, I kind of weird we look down upon the disciples butt.

And a lot of ways we have a lot more Revelation to who Christ is than what the disciples did even while Christ was amongst them.

Again, it was not until after Jesus resurrection that they fully understood. and once they did that change their life completely,

Alright. Well let's take some time to pray. and I'll start us out in the word of prayer and Robbie after everyone who has prayed, A fuel closes in a war prayer. Are gracious and kind Heavenly Father. We are grateful or that we can just come. Even the few of us that are have, made it tonight. And Lord, just to read your word. And to discuss the really the depth of

Such a familiar story. And something that we could chew on for many days to come. A father. I pray that so.

That Lord that we would just grow in your grace and knowledge each and every day I pray for all of that. For all those that we have mentioned earlier, those who are dealing with a physical illness, those who are dealing with the

Arrival of death upon their home. Father, I pray that you would give them a peace that passes all understanding, I pray God that you would give them. Your strength during this time. Father, I pray that you would just

We were the church father, I pray that you would strengthen us. In our faith in you. Fallout pray that you would show yourself mighty.

I pray, Lord, you would save Souls. I pray that each and every person that walks through these doors, that's is lost. Would come under, Holy Spirit conviction, and that you would draw them to your son, Jesus. and I pray that all those who are saved, father would grow closer to you. Thought I just ask all these things of Christ name.
