This Week’s Theme: Choose Wisdom
This Week’s Word is Wisdom: The quality of knowledge, discernment and understanding characteristic of God himself. True wisdom is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Scripture affirms that true human wisdom is a gift from God and points out the folly of trusting in mere human wisdom.
Memory Verse: Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: Moses commanded Israel to carefully observe the statutes and judgments of the LORD as they prepared to occupy the Promise Land, because doing so would reveal to other nations their wisdom and understanding
Sermon Proposition: Saints are called to carefully attentive to, apply, and act on the commands of the God through Christ, for this reveals their wisdom and understanding to those around them.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to trust in God and His command by carefully living out His instructions for being the Christian spouse, parent, child, friend, and worker in the community.
Sermon Text: Deuteronomy 4:5-6
Deuteronomy 4:5–6 NKJV
5 “Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. 6 Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
INTRODUCTION: Some people are operated in areas different from their schooling. People often do what is called a career change. They maybe worked in bank for many years, only to switch to a different career choice and become a elementary school teacher. A number of people are making decisions even know to move into a different field.
TRANSITION: In the text before us today, we have a group of individual who are getting ready to move into a different field. Many of them had been slaves of Pharoah, but they were making a career change. The were looking the be the lender and not the borrower. They were looking to be the head and not the tail. They were looking to live in the light and no hoover in the darkness. In preparation, they entered obedience school, seeking to prepare for their new life and are at the cuff of graduating and working in their NEW FIELD. But, their teacher, Moses, providing one last COMMENCEMENT SPEECH to sum up what they should have learned as they have wandered through the trails of academia. AS WE LISTEN IN, HEAR Moses WORDS IN VERSE ONE. HE TOLD THEM TO

LISTEN TO GOD INSTRUCTIONS

Deuteronomy 4:1 NKJV
1 “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you.
HE GAVE THEM, OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS. THEY HAVE TAKEN TEST AFTER TEST AND NOW THEY ARE ABOUT TO GRADUATE. THE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR EARS MUST NEVER CLOSE. THEY WILL CONTINUALLY FIND THEMSELVES IN NEW SITUATIONS THAT MAYBE THEY ARE NOT SURE HOW TO MOVE FORWARD.
REMEMBER, WHEN THE GUY WAS PICKING UP STICKS ON THE SABBATH AND THEY HAD NO CLEAR INSTRUCTION ON WHAT TO DO. LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID IN Numbers 15:34
Numbers 15:34 NKJV
34 They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him.
THEY HELD HIM UNTIL GOD COULD ORDER THEIR STEPS
REMEMBER, WHEN THE GUY
THEREFORE, THEY NEEDED TO LISTEN FOR GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS
REMEMBER, WHEN ONE IN THE CONGREGATION, WAS FIGHTING ANOTHER AND BLASPHEMED THE NAME OF THE LORD. WHAT DID THEY DO. LOOK AT LEV. 24.12
Leviticus 24:12 NKJV
12 Then they put him in custody, that the mind of the Lord might be shown to them.
ARE YOU STILL LISTENING? JESUS SAID IN MATT 13.9
Matthew 13:9 NKJV
9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
JESUS WENT TO EXPLAIN TO HIS DISCIPLES MATT 15:10
Matthew 15:10 NKJV
10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand:

LEARN GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS

Listen and learn
Deuteronomy 4:1–4 NKJV
1 “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you. 2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. 3 Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor. 4 But you who held fast to the Lord your God are alive today, every one of you.
Observe to watch carefully especially with attention to details or behavior for the purpose of arriving at a judgment.
Don’t Add
