Hallelujahs in Heaven
The word hallelujah is most familiar in the context of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.
Hallelujah (הַלְלוּיָהּ) is a combination of 2 words.
1. Halal (הָלַל) –
This root form is translated throughout the Bible as: to be clear; to be brilliant; to shine; to flash forth light; to praise, boast, be boastful. The word specifically used in Hallelujah is l’hallel (לְהַלֵל), which means to praise or to glorify.
Note for language-lovers: hallelu (הַלְלוּ) is the masculine plural imperative form of the piel verb, so it is the positive command “you [must] praise”. I think a simple example would be the applause cue card at a live show. When the card is raised, people clap. Similarly, when hallelu is said, people praise.
The Egyptian Hallel.” Psalms 113-118
The phrase “Hallelu Yah” — praise the Lord — shows up frequently in these Psalms. That is why they are nicknamed “the Hallel.” These are the Psalms that Jews in New Testament times commonly sang during the Passover seder and we see in the Scriptures that Yeshua and the Apostles sang “The Egyptian Hallel” with Him for the last time before His death.
Psalm 118 is quoted a number of times in the Apostolic Scriptures, and several times in the Gospels as well. One key quote was recorded during the Triumphal Entry of Yeshua into Yerushalayim on Lamb Selection Day before His death on Pesakh: Passsover
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Psalm 118:25-26 “25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.”
The Great Hallel Psalms 120-135.
“Great Hallel” in Psalms 120-135, also called the Psalms of Ascent because they are recited during Sukkot.(Tabernacles)
In the first century AD, the priests would chant the Hallel during the sacrifice of the Paschal lambs in the Temple.
2. Yah (יָהּ), the shortened form of Gods name Yahweh (יְהוָֹה).YHVH
The Tetragrammaton, referred to in rabbinic literature as HaShem (The Name) or Shem Hameforash (The Special Name), is the word used to refer to the four-letter word, yud-hey-vav-hey (יהוה), that is the name for God used in the Hebrew Bible.
The name, which some people pronounce as Yahweh and others (mostly Christians) as Jehovah,
The four letters of the Tetragrammaton form the root meaning “to be,” and some have understood the original meaning to be “He-Who-Is,” or “He who brings being into being.”
The origin of the taboo on pronouncing God’s name aloud — viewing this as irreverent or possibly even a violation of the commandment not to take God’s name in vain — is not entirely clear. However, some attribute it to a Temple practice in which only the High Priest was allowed to utter the name, and only when in the Temple and reciting the priestly blessing.
Putting these together we get “praise ye YAh” or praise the Lord
The last five chapters in the book of Psalms (146-150) comprise what might be considered a great "Hallalujah Chorus" to this "Hallel" book--the "book of Israel's praises," as the book of Psalms was called by the Israelites.

Rev 19 is the scene of some more Hallelujah's but this time they are ones that the Church is present in and through!
These are the hallelujahs of the Judge and His Judgement..
Let’s look at them..
The Hallelujah of Redemption Rev 19:1
1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
This is the praise of salvation
the great multitude gathered under the blood
the Church getting primed to return with the Lord as brings the kingdom that was rejected at Calvary
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
"The salvation of God should awaken the gratitude of man. The glory of God should awaken the reverence of man. The power of God is always exercised in the love of God, and should, therefore, awaken the trust of man. Gratitude, reverence, trust—these are the constituent elements of real praise." Barclay
In the praise there is recognition of the praised one
“glory, honour and power, unto the Lord our God”
following on from the hallelujah of redemption, there is the hallelujah of righteous retribution in verses 2-3
The Hallelujah of Retribution Rev 19:2-3
2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.
This great multitude in heaven praises God because of His true (fair) and righteous (just) judgments (cf. 15:3; 16:7) especially upon the great prostitute Babylon.
It is only right that Babylon, which brought moral ruin on the earth, should lie in ruins.
God judgement is just, He is the just Judge and we praise him
Psalm 104:35 “35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, And let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord.”
The permanence and finality of God’s judgment upon all evil is cause for the rejoicing of God’s people. Hallelujah! - Lehman Straus
The hallelujah of Redemption, of Retribution and thridly then of Realisation in verses 4-5
The Hallelujah of Realisation Rev 19:4-5
4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
The 24 elders and the four living creatures echoed these sentiments in the third song of praise
“ God that sat on the throne”
sovereignty, isn't that worth praising

The Hallelujah of Return Rev 19:6
6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
The prayer of “thy kingdom come” is about to be answered!
the ruler promised to rule and reign from the throne of David is on his way
11 The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; He will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. 12 If thy children will keep my covenant And my testimony that I shall teach them, Their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
This is psalm 2 territory
Psalm 2.
The moment of Phil 2:11 is coming
Phil 2:11 “11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
This is the moment anticipated by all the redeemed. When Jesus came the first time, He was rejected and nailed to a cross. When He comes again, all men, rich and poor, high and low, will bow homage at His feet. Hallelujah!
What a lot we have to praise God for....
