Psalm 46:8–11 ESV
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. 10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Introduction: The world is full of tragedy.

BE STILL (at peace)
Psalm 46:10 CSB
10 “Stop fighting, and know that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.”
Does not mean to be passive.
Why are we fighting? For peace! Where is peace found? In Him!
Philippians 4:6 CSB
6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Peace is not the absence of struggle. Peace is found in the very midst of it.
Breakdown of the Psalm
Section 1 God is Refuge (1-3)
Psalm 46:1 CSB
1 God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.
Section 2 God Calms The Chaos (roaring seas of v. 3) (4-7)
Psalm 46:4–5 CSB
4 There is a river— its streams delight the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the Most High. 5 God is within her; she will not be toppled. God will help her when the morning dawns.
Section 3 God As A Warrior (8-11)
We can be still when we.......
Remember the works of the Lord
Psalm 46:8 CSB
8 Come, see the works of the Lord, who brings devastation on the earth.
App. God is actively involved in the affairs of life. We must remember this (looking back helps). He is not distracted nor dismayed.
As the army comes to destroy, it is the Lord who.....
Psalm 46:9 CSB
9 He makes wars cease throughout the earth. He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces; he sets wagons ablaze.
Jerusalem at this time was surrounded by foreign armies. They were hopeless and defeat was expected. Just like us at times.
2 Corinthians 4:8–10 CSB
8 We are afflicted in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; 9 we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. 10 We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be displayed in our body.
