Do You Hear His Voice?

Judges 6:7-10

"That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel,…but ye have not obeyed my voice."

No other prophet is mentioned in this book except Deborah.

This becomes a reproof upon Israel for their disobedience, and a reproof for us when we are disobedient.

I.                   The prophetic voice is given to bring about conviction of sin, lest when we cry out to God, we are found complaining.

A.    Complaining about the situation is typical for non repentant sinners.

1.      They only see the trouble, not the chastening.

2.      They are unaware of the Lord’s intervention.

B.     A prophetic voice comes in many shapes and sizes.

1.      In Bible reading and study.

2.      Through sermons.

3.      From other Christians in fellowship. (Prov. 27:17)

4.      From the influence of Godly parents.

5.      From the innocence of children.

C.     For conviction to take root there must be acceptance.

Acceptance is the first part of confession. It says “I am guilty!”

II.                As Christians, God will also reprove us and will stand aside allowing us to experience the full consequence of our sin.

A.    He will not overlook your sin of disobedience.

B.     Many times the absence of His help is directly proportionate to the absence of introspection on our part.

III.             With confession God will send help.

The book of Judges is an example of this constant cycle in our lives. God sends His messengers and redeemers to Israel over and over again. He has given us His Spirit.

A.    If we are disobedient He will let us stew in our own mess.

B.     If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us… 1 John 1:10
