Romans 10:13-21
Romans 10:13-21
This passage is often used as the basis for the church’s missionary program, and rightly so, but its first application is to the nation of Israel.
Paul asks four questions:
1. Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?
2. Romans 10:14 how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?
· All have heard, there is no excuse, everyone has received a general revelation of God.
Romans 10:17-19NKJV
17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: “Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.”
Psalm 19:1-4NKJV
1To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard.
4Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
Romans 1:19-20NKJV
19because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
3. Romans 10:14 how shall they hear without a preacher?
4. Romans 10:15 how shall they preach unless they are sent?
· Preacher = one who announces or proclaims.
· This can be any Christian.
· Phillip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-39)
· When one accepts the general revelation, and desire a personal knowledge, we must be ready.
· We must be ready and willing to participate in and/or support missions
The Great Commission:
Matthew 28:19-20NKJV
19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
v.15: The feet are beautiful: (Isaiah 52:7; Nahum 1:15)
· The feet carry us into the world.
· They transport us from place to place, so that we can proclaim the Gospel.
v.16: Despite our best efforts, not all will believe.
Vs.19-21:
· Verse 19 was a prophecy by Moses in Deuteronomy 32:21.
· Moses told them that they would be jealous of the gentiles, and that’s exactly what happened.
· Verse 20 was a prophecy from Isaiah 65:1.
· Isaiah prophesied the God would save the gentiles, and that’s exactly what happened.
· God’s word has proven true, time and again!
· v.21: God blesses and waits for us, even when we don’t deserve it.
