John 10: 27-30

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” John 10:27-30 This is one of the clearest statements in the Bible that one who believes in Jesus for salvation will never be lost. Believers sin and stumble, but Jesus as the perfect Shepherd loses none of His flock.
I want to start with what Eternal security does not mean. It does not mean that once Christ has saved us that we can continue in Sin. Paul tells us in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians in Chapter 5 verse 17 “ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” When we are saved we die to our old self nd are “born again” as a new creation. Of course we will stumble and our lives wont be perfect but our hope is not in ourselves but in Christ alone who Saved us. Phil 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. When we come to know Christ as our savior we are brought into a relationship with God that guarantees our salvation as eternally secure. To be clear, salvation is more than saying a prayer or “making a decision” for Christ; When salvation occurs, God gives the forgiven sinner a new heart and puts a new spirit within him, The Spirit will cause the saved person to walk in obedience to God’s Word.
So what then does Eternal security mean - Eternal security means that because we have been saved on the grounds of Christ’s perfect work in dying for our sins, and according to God’s eternal purpose in our election, our salvation is sealed, or guaranteed, by the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Or more simply put, Those who place their faith in Jesus are Eternally secure. Ephesians 4:30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” If believers did not have eternal security, the sealing could not truly be unto the day of redemption, but only to the day of sinning, or disbelief. Romans 8:38-39 says, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our eternal security is based on God’s love for those whom He has redeemed.
If you believe you are eternal secure, your service to God is rooted in love instead of a desire for acceptance. If you do not believe in eternal security, you live in constant uncertainty and fear of rejection because
your actions never quite measure up. So I would ask you, How is the enemy trying to rob you of the joy of your eternal security? Salvation is secured by Jesus ,the good Shepherd. If Jesus saves you, you are saved for good. If Jesus makes you alive, you’ll never die. If Jesus gives you sight, you’ll never go blind. If Jesus adopts you, you’ll never be alone. If Jesus takes you in his hands, you will be in those hands beyond the bounds of time.
Our eternal security is purchased by Christ, promised by the Father, and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
