Questions:

What is it like in Heaven?
Revelation 21:1 ESV
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
Mark 13:31 ESV
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Isaiah 66:22 ESV
“For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain.
This has always been the plan. Throughout scripture we see God doing the work to restore what was broken in the Garden and return us to that place.
In Heaven there will be good work to do and we will be in the presence of God. It will be everything great about Earth without any corruption from sin. Everything will exist for the Glory and worship of God.
Why is Hell a thing?
Very clear, Hell is a thing, Jesus spends more time warning people about hell than he does getting them excited about Heaven.
Matthew 18:9 ESV
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.
Mark 9:48 ESV
‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’
The bible does not explain why Hell exists only what the experience of being in Hell is like.
But it was not originally created for humans, Matthew 25:41
Matthew 25:41 ESV
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
The reason Hell exists for humans is because of who God is. God is holy and all of our sin is ultimately against him. God being Holy cannot just accept that sin against himself and move on, Romans 6:23
Romans 6:23 ESV
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Since God is infinite and eternal, the punishment of Hell must be as well.
Why Did God create humans?
Not because he was lonely.
God loves us, but he does not need us.
Colossians 1:16 ESV
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
We were created for him.
What we know from the trinity, is that God is a relational being.
He desired to create us, he finds pleasure in creating things, and he desired to be in relationship with us.
How cool is that?
What is the point of life? What is God’s vision for us?
Westminster Confession
What is the chief end of man?
to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.
1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
There is a great quote by John piper:
“God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in him”
Explain this.
So God’s vision for us is to bring him glory, to enjoy life praising him, to worship him in all that we do.
God wants us to have joy and to enjoy life, and he knows that our fullest Joy will only be found in him and so he wants us to experience joy in Him.
What are some ways to connect with God if I want to get closer with him and what do I do if I feel like I cant even though I want to? I feel like I have too much on my plate.
St. Augustines disordered loves, sometimes we do love wrong things
James 4:1–3 ESV
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
You love God you want to pursue him, but, there are other loves ahead of your love for God
What do you do about this? 1 John 3:4-8
1 John 3:4–8 ESV
Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
practice righteousness and the ways of lord abiding
Its practicing our walk with Jesus and overtime our hearts begin to desire the right things
Prayer, sacraments, community, bible
What is a biblical worldview and how do I obtain one?
Start by acknowledging that God is the God of the Bible and that the Bible is true.
1 John 2:15–17 ESV
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Colossians 3:1–3 ESV
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Its real simple, look at the world the way the bible does.
Matthew 22:37–40 ESV
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Look at the world the way God does, evaluate every one of your actions by this, is this loving God? Is this loving others?
Also as you grow in faith God is going to change you heart to view the world the way he does. It is again practicing faith and allowing Christ to do the work in your heart.
Why does God allow bad things to happen to innocent/good people and sometimes not get better for years?
A hard question, we can get in the woods theologically, but thats not always helpful.
“Why do bad things happen to good people? That only happened once and He volunteered.” — R.C. Sproul
Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
That starts with the assumption that we are good, and we are not, we do not deserve anything, we need to flip the script on its head and say who am I that God lets me expirience joy, good food, friendship.. etc,.
Job 2:10 ESV
But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
God loves us and is using all things for our ultimate good and his glory.
Romans 8:28 ESV
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
What is our good? To know and love Christ.
SO when something bad happens, we may not understand but we can look and say, this, is working for my good and his glory. Praise God.
Its not easy. But praise God its true.
Why doesn’t God still perform miracles like he did in the Bible? Is God really dead?
God is not Dead
When we look at miracles in the old and new testament they always have more going on than just someone saying the right words or having enough faith.
Miracles serve a purpose, theres a great story of this John 9:1-3
John 9:1–3 ESV
As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.
Both his blindness and his healing took place so that the works of God could be put on display.
When we see miracles in the old testament like the 10 Plagues, or parting the red sea, God is doing these miraculous things because they are a part of his plan of redemption for his people and because in those things he will be brought glory.
He also does the miracles through people like moses and elijah to so show how they are chosen by God, in the same way, in the new testament when Jesus performs miracles and then the apostles and the 72 John 3:2
John 3:2 ESV
This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
So miracles happen not because we deserve to be healed, they happen for God’s purposes and glory.
AND the truth is we see miracles all the time, it is nothing short or a miracle that I am the way I am now, every time someone goes from death to life in Christ that is a miracle.
If God Knows everything why did he let Adam and Eve sin or why does he just tell/make people believe?
