Do you think that being humble and meek are strong christian qualities? why or why not?
Mark 1:1–8 ESV
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’ ” John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Now John was one of the first mentioned in the book of Mark.
What are some attributes of John we see in these verses?
So John first off pointed back to Jesus in all that he did.
He wasn’t out there for him. He was out there to share the hope that Jesus was coming with.
So imagine John was out here and he was encouraging these people to be Baptized.
Baptism for John was a transformation in the peoples lives.
He wanted them to turn from sin and turn to God.
Now the people at this time had been promised a messiah and they awaited anxiously to see that Messiah.
So John being the one who was baptizing them and asking them to turn from their sin seems as the obvious choice.
But John didn’t take the credit or the praise, he humbled himself and gave it to Jesus.
So what does it mean to be humble while doing God’s work?
Jon uses the word “I am not worthy”
We see here that God was using a man who understood that he was nothing in comparison to who Jesus was
Jesus’s power is mighty and strong.
He can save our souls but John has only the power and strength to do what Christ has allowed his to do.
So John says ‘I am not worthy”
Why do you think John would be baptizing if he isn’t woprthy?
Simple, because the one who is worthy commanded him to .
Whatever it is in yall’s lives that keep you can do it.
Whatever it is that keeps you from doing God’;s work.
I will crush your dreams and say, you aren’t worthy
I am not worthy.
Jeuss makes us whole and through him we can live for him and work for him.
Perhaps he has called you deeper into life for him
Are you going to listen today?
Now I don’t know what kind of obedience he may be calling you to, thats for you to pray about and determine.
But you need to listen to him.
If you aren’t walking the way you should you need to ask him to forgive you of your sins and begin to walk with him.
If you aren’t in the word as you should, you need to ask him to forgive you and begin to be in his word.
If he is calling you into some form of ministry or leadership you need to fall on your face before him and allow him to use you.
You will be miserable if you do not follow what God has for you so please follow him today.
