The Greek tense indicates continuous action, a continuous following moment by moment.

The word “light” is used 24 times in John’s gospel. In the prologue, we read in

John 1:9 “The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”

Isaiah 42:6-7 (ESV)

6 “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness;  I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world That he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Source of light is God’s love

Danger of not having light is perishing

Switch of the light is believing

Power of the light is eternal life.

13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.”14 Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. 17 In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true. 18 I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.”

Light is a source to life

7 Therefore do not become partners with them; 8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

“Awake, O sleeper,     and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
