Welcome
Giving of the bride
Doubly blessed is the couple which comes to this moment with the approval of their families and friends. Who has the honor of presenting Kaitlyn to be married to Paul?
“Her mother and I do.” or “We do.”
Message
(If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.)
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. (As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.) 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Declaration of Intent
Having freely and prayerfully chosen each other as partners for life, and in an expression of your total commitment to one another, I invite you to face each other and join hands.
Paul, do you take Kaitlyn, to be your wife, to live together in the covenant of marriage? Do you promise to love her, and, forsaking all others to be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?
“I do.”
Kaitlyn, do you take Paul, to be your husband, to live together in the covenant of marriage? Do you promise to love him, and, forsaking all others to be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?
“I do.”
Exchange of Vows
Please give careful attention to the following vows. If they truly represent the posture of your hearts, then repeat after me.
"I, Paul . . . , take you, Kaitlyn . . . , to be my wife . . . , to have and to hold . . . , from this day forward . . . , for better, for worse . . . , for richer, for poorer . . . , in sickness and in health . . . , to love and to cherish . . . , as long as we both shall live.... This is my promise to you."
"I, Kaitlyn . . . , take you, Paul . . . , to be my husband . . . , to have and to hold . . . , from this day forward . . . , for better, for worse . . . , for richer, for poorer . . . , in sickness and in health . . . , to love and to cherish . . . , as long as we both shall live.... This is my promise to you."
Exchange of Rings
Paul, as you place this symbol of your love and affection upon Kaitlyn’s finger, repeat this promise after me:
“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love... and with all that I am and all that I have... I honor you ... in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
Kaitlyn, as you place this symbol of your love on Paul’s finger, repeat this promise after me:
“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love... and with all that I am and all that I have... I honor you… in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
Prayer
Pronouncement
You have pledged your faith and love for each other. You have symbolized your promise by giving and receiving the rings. Therefore in view of the vows here declared before God and these witnesses, as a minister of the Gospel of our Lord, and by the powers vested in me by the State of Virginia, I now pronounce you, husband and wife; so long as you both shall live.
You may kiss the bride.
Presentation
With great joy I now present to you, Paul and Kaitlyn Cochran!
