“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Sheep

We are the sheep and we are lost

Isaiah 53:6a (ESV)

6 All we like sheep have gone astray;     we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him     the iniquity of us all.

We need a shepherd

Isaiah 40:11

Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom;

He will gently lead the nursing ewes.

Micah 5:4

And He will arise and shepherd His flock In the strength of the Lord,

In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will remain,

Because at that time He will be great

To the ends of the earth.

1 Peter 2:25  (ESV)

25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Sheep herd together

Robber vs the Shepherd

There are two people after the sheep in today’s world.

Satan just wants you out of the pen. So the wolves can eat you and the world can distract you..

Hired vs invested

John 10:12-13

12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep

Invested

John 10:14-15 (ESV)

14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

I know them

Calls them by name JOhn 10:3b gma called us every name...

Leads them

John 10:3 leads them out.

They know me

Jesus is modeling this relationship with his dad for us.

Jesus reason for coming to earth

He has the authority to ..he is in control
