INTRODUCTION: B-HAG (big hairy audacious goal) funny story about being in a class and trying to out do one another on the size of our goals.
Whatever you have in mind for Jesus, he is better than even that.
Everything else lets you down. - Disney world.
Hebrews 7:20 ESV
20 And it was not without an oath. For those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath,
without an oath - God did not give an oath to the Levi’s. They just assumed it based on birth.
But oaths were a big deal in that culture. It was the legally biding promise.
Hebrews 7:21 ESV
21 but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him: “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, ‘You are a priest forever.’ ”
i signed a contract - can’t remember what it said lol.
But you don’t make highschool kid sign one to mow yard.
The Lord has sworn, and will not change his mind - God doesn’t change his mind anyway, so the oath was for our benefit not for His accountability. Now we can be sure that Jesus always will be our high priest. (some translations say repent, but that refers to changing his mind).
You are a priest forever. - I am here for a season. Carl was here for a long season. Jesus is always here.
Hebrews 7:22 ESV
22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.
Guarantor - He is the one who paid the price for a covenant.
ILLUSTRATION: My Father co-signed for my first apartment. Jesus put down cost to guarantee the new covenant and guarantee God’s love for you.

Jesus proved God’s love for you. (Hebrews 7:20-22)

Hebrews 7:23 ESV
23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office,
HAHA - GOLDFISH 10-15 YEARS- GERATRIC WARD FROM WALMART
There were many in number - there were lots of them, why? Because they kept dying.
10 out 10 died... Men 25-50 age were the only ones allowed to perform these tasks. So every 25 years a whole new set of priests would be there.
Hebrews 7:24 ESV
24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
Because he does not die, he never stops being our priest.
No matter how dark your clothes are our how tight your collar is. There is only one priest.
The queen of England joke. She gave him a run for his money.
Hebrews 7:25 ESV
25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
Consequently - Because he continues forever.
able to save - present. He is continually saving you.
to the uttermost - illustration. As far as someone can go
make intercession - he is praying for you. He is seating down. Have you ever seen a lawyer sit down when making a strong case? Probably not. But his wounds made the defense not his words.
Story of me going to court. Pleading guilty. Police asked for mercy saying “Don’t want to mess with God’s flock.”

Jesus never stops saving us. (Hebrews 7:23-25)

normally a dead animal means a covenant is good as long as the animal is dead, but here is it is as long as Jesus is alive.
(HAHA) never gonna give you up clip.
Hebrews 7:26 ESV
26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.
fitting - imperfect. Over and over again.
Did not mean that it was fitting, because that’s what we are. Rather, it is a better sacrifice so the standard was also raised.
separated from sinners - that could be bad news, until you realize if you are in Christ you are not a sinner you are seated in the heavens.
Hebrews 7:27 ESV
27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.
He has no need …to offer sacrifices daily. - Other high priests would first have to sacrifice for themselves before sacrificing for other. .
But Jesus’ sacrifice was good for all. Why? Because he is God, He is timeless, he is perfect.
Hebrews 7:28 ESV
28 For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.
For the law - weakness, sinful high priests.
Perfect forever - -

Jesus being perfect is our only hope. (Hebrews 7:26-28)

CONCLUSION: GRAB CHAIR - SIT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND TO SHOW THAT HE WAS NOT PACING.
IT WAS NOT HIS WORDS THAT INTERCEDES FOR US . ITS HIS WOUNDS.
Romans 8:34 “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”
