Christ in Jonah
Jonah is the only prophet whom Jesus likened to Himself (see Matt. 12:39–41). Jonah’s experience is a type of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

(v.1) “the word of the Lord”
1st occurrence of this phrase is God calling a man and letting him know that he would have a son through impossible circumstances. God calls Jonah to a work that involved impossible circumstances. As you may know with God ALL things are possible (Luke 1:37)
(v.2) “cry against it” - This is what God calls every missionary, preacher, pastor, or evangelist to do.
(v.3) “went down” is the direction.
(v.4) God interrupts Jonah’s plans.
(vs.5-7) Men determining what and how
(vs.8-10) It is bad when the world cannot tell what you are for the way you act
(vs.11-16) Man overboard
(v.17) “great fish” is interpreted by Jesus Himself in Matthew 12:40 to be a whale. By the way, who told you a whale was a mammal? Was it God or man? What else did that man tell you about that whale?
