Spiritual Indifference
Indifference is not a new thing ,”OK”
Jesus wrote letters to 7 Church in Rev.
-Laodicea: wealthy city, 35 years earlier destroyed earthquake: Rebuilt.
Theaters, Stadium, Lavish public baths, Shopping centers. (Vegas, Dubai)
There was a major problem:Inadequate water Supply
Pipe in water from Colossae or Hireapolis (Superheroes—Ironman)
Colossae cold (Mountain), Hireapolis—Hot Springs.
Both had purpose—Cool and refreshing—Hot—Medicinal.
By the time the water got Laodicea—Dirty, Tepid—Lukewarm.
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
They are stale, detached Spiritually
It did just make Jesus upset, but made Him want to vomit
Lets talk about Spiritual Indifference
There are 2 causes of Spiritual indifference
1-Self-Sufficiency
1-Self-Sufficiency
You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
I’m Good: Coffee, Amazon, TV, Wal-Mart
-You have worldly wealth- but you are spiritually poor
-Lives are full of stuff- empty in meaning
2- Distractions of This World
2- Distractions of This World
but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
Doing great in your faith, mountain top, just to let life get in the way
bills to pay
car breaks down
dishes
you get sick
story of every transformation
We just let a little bit of Jesus in- Just enough to make us feel good, but it really does not do anything
What Are Some Indicators That We Are Living A Lukewarm Life?
What Are Some Indicators That We Are Living A Lukewarm Life?
1. We Are More Concerned With Impressing People Than Living For God.
1. We Are More Concerned With Impressing People Than Living For God.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
Jesus says: Woe to you when all speak well of you
2. We Are Obsessed With Life on Earth Rather Than Eternity
2. We Are Obsessed With Life on Earth Rather Than Eternity
What I have over what I’m called to do
3. We Rationalize Sin and Live Without Truly Fearing God.
3. We Rationalize Sin and Live Without Truly Fearing God.
I’m not as bad as others
I’m not hurting anyone
it’s just one time
being a little bit selfish isn’t that big of a deal
Everyone else does it
I’m only doing _____
4. We Believe In Jesus, But We Rarely Share Our Faith
4. We Believe In Jesus, But We Rarely Share Our Faith
Jesus said if you confess me, but if you don’t ?
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
5. We Only Turn to God When We Need Him.
5. We Only Turn to God When We Need Him.
Rather than seeking him daily—We seek him when he benefits us.
He’s a tool we use when we need—Not a God I fear and worship.
We Are Not Much Different From The World
We Are Not Much Different From The World
We watch the same movies
listen to the same music
do the same things
raise kids the same way
etc.
The good things that I have told you
List: Word, Pray, Witness, Fellowship, Give, Worship, Turn from sins
Everyday, Do Something That Requires Faith
Everyday, Do Something That Requires Faith
· Stand up for something even though I know I’m going to be mocked.
· Give when it’s a stretch for me to give—trust God.
· Apologize to someone—Forgive when you don’t feel it.
· Volunteer to pray out loud at next small group. (Go to small group)
· Reach out to someone that God put on my heart even though.
· Expose yourself to something that breaks your heart.
· Pray for something that’s impossible.
· Attempt something you could never do without God’s help.
Without faith—Impossible to please God.
The good news is that God see this and shows us the correction, and yes sometimes He disciplines but that is because HE LOVES US
I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
