This Week’s Theme: Choose Life
This Week’s Word is Eternal Life: It is the state of being in a permanent living relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, begun in this life and consummated at the resurrection of believers.
Memory Verse: Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: After presenting the covenant to the generation who were about to enter the Promised Land, Moses plead with them to choose life.
Sermon Proposition: Why believers should choose the Lord everyday.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to choose to live for God everyday.
Sermon Text: Deuteronomy 30:15-20
Deuteronomy 30:15–20 NKJV
15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. 17 But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, 18 I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:

I. UNDERSTAND THE COMMAND

Deuteronomy 30:16 NKJV
16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.
Deuteronomy 30:20 NKJV
20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

II. UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES

Deuteronomy 30:17–18 NKJV
17 But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, 18 I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess.

III. UNDERSTAND THE CHOICE

Deuteronomy 30:15 NKJV
15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil,
Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

IT IS NOT A SECRET

Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

IT IS NOT TEMPORARY

John 6:66–68 NKJV
66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

IT IS NOT PERFECTION

Deuteronomy 9:7 NKJV
7 “Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.
Deuteronomy 31:27 NKJV
27 for I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. If today, while I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against the Lord, then how much more after my death?

NOT PERFECTION BUT PERSISTENCE

IT IS NOT OUT OF REACH

Deuteronomy 30:11–14 NKJV
11 “For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
Romans 10:5–9 NKJV
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

IN YOUR MOUTH

Deuteronomy 29:12 NKJV
12 that you may enter into covenant with the Lord your God, and into His oath, which the Lord your God makes with you today,
Deuteronomy 29:14 NKJV
14 “I make this covenant and this oath, not with you alone,

IN YOUR HEART

Deuteronomy 30:2 NKJV
2 and you return to the Lord your God and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul,
Deuteronomy 30:10 NKJV
10 if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
