Isaiah 6:1 – 13

God in His Holiness

Exegetical thought – Man not correctly viewing in His true holiness.

Homiletical thought/Big Idea –Allowing our relationship with God; to be of a purity that will allow God’s will and thoughts to be truly discern.

FCF –Our misperceptions blocks the true view of seeing God in His holiness.

Illustration --- As one move through life, trekking along the path of following God. Are we sure that we have as followers or leaders have the correct view of God. Who He is? The fullness of praise, which is His alone?

Are we as leaders blind… leading the blind? Are seeing God in His Holiness??

Introduction:

The border-line between vision and dream or trance is difficult if not impossible to determine.

Isaiah was already in the service of God when he had his vision. At the time of this vision the nation was in a state of disobedience so god was sending his servant with a message. Prior to this vision Isaiah was like his fellow countrymen in some sense for his spiritual insight was short. Ofttimes our misperceptions block the true view of seeing God in His Holiness.

1.      Isaiah’s Vision vv1 – 4

Isaiah sees the Lord upon His throne…needed to cleansed for he was in the presence of God—he thought he was going to be killed for crossing a boundary,

[…Holy One of Israel; 25x in Isaiah + 5x in other places of the Bible = 30x;Lord of host, the Universe]

*His presence filling the temple

*attended by seraphim

*there is voiced praise to the Lord

*perceiving the foundations quake at His voice

Consider…

Illustration ---Before the days of modern navigational aids a traveler made the Atlantic crossing in a boat equipped with two compasses. One was fixed to the deck where the man at the wheel could see it. The other compass was fastened up on one of the masts, and often a sailor would be seen climbing up to inspect it.

The passenger asked the captain, “Why do you have two compasses?”

“This is an iron vessel,” replied the captain, “and the compass on the deck is often affected by its surroundings. Such is not the case with the compass at the masthead; that one is above the influence. We steer by the compass above.” Do we also as Christians? —Prairie Overcomer

Application --- When God allows a vision of Him immediately recognize Him.

Isaiah recognizes his peril…

2.     Isaiah’s response to the vision vv5 – 7

…when Isaiah recognizing that he was in the presence of God, the fullness of Holiness before Him, he as other men was unable to hear God speaking, (God is speaking to men at all times yet we do not hear Him for we do not fully perceive His Holiness…)

*realization of personal shortcoming

*acceptance immediately of aid

*belief (implicit) in his forgiveness

Illustration ---“‘It is like being a pumpkin.’ God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you.  Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed.  ‘Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.’”

Application ---- When in your conscious the sin/error is shown to you acknowledge it and allow its correction.

Isaiah is now found ready for his new undertaking…

3.     Isaiah’s fulfillment of vision vv8 – 13

Willing people who trust in the Lord, justice and righteousness is the way in which we keep in the paths of God

*hears the Lord’s question: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

*Isaiah speaks in reply: “Here I am! Send me.”

Illustration --- Isaiah had a direct line to God, no operator in between or secretary where the message would be misconstrued. He knew exactly what the message to the people was to be.

Application ---- Making sure that the dreams/visions and the words which are a part of it, are of God.

Conclusion:

Let none hear you idly saying, “There is nothing I can do,”

While the souls of men are dying, and the Master calls for you.

Take the task He gives you gladly. Let His work your pleasure be;

Answer quickly when He calleth, “Here am I, send me, send me!”

So often man says he hears and sees God yet have not for his sin is a opaque wall between him and God.

It is often said God called Isaiah in this particular instance however scripture shows God did not address Isaiah until Isaiah upon hearing God’s musing spoke up and ask to be the representative. What made Isaiah able to hear God at this particular time was the closeness of his relationship with God for God had not called anyone and was seeking among men whom to send.
