-Paul gave a charge to Timothy in light of the false teachers that loomed around Ephesus
v.1 - 2 = the charge
-Paul gave a charge (warn, urge)
-in the presence of God the Father and God the Son
-with in mind that Jesus will return - He will judge the living and the dead

-preach the Word - declare the good news, expound the Scriptures
How?
-ready in season and out (convenient, uncomfortable)
-give instruction from the Word, with patience
v.3-4 - the reason for the charge
-many would not put up with sound doctrine, do not want the truth of God’s Word
-They find teachers that suit their own desires, itching - to feel a crave, long for excitement, that which flashes
-wander - a slow progression away from the truth
v. 5 - personal charge
-always be sober-minded - to live in a state of alertness
-endure suffering, hardship
v.6-8 - Paul’s departure was at hand
-finishing the race
