Protoevangelium Genesis 3:14-21

We all know the story of Adam in the garden.
READ Gen. 2:7-9, 15-17.
READ Gen. 3:24.
There are 4 things in the painting of this shadow that I want you to consider about Adam in this historical event of the Garden
Adam is from the below. He was created from the dust, from a virgin earth, and to the fallen dust he did returned.
Adam from below (Gen 2:7)
Adam placed into a garden, the best of conditions where there was no sin. For all of it was good.
Adam is in the Garden (Gen 2:8)
Adam was given a positive law. Adam broke this law causing the fall of all mankind in him.
Adam broke the law (Gen 2:17, 3:6)
Adam was drove out of the Garden, to that of a sin covered world where all creation is crying out awaiting its redemption.
Transition to Jesus Now we will examine the historical Anti-type of this even found in Jesus. A story that I pray that we are all familiar with even more so than the garden. This is the mirroring effect that takes place in the fulfillment and in the success of the life of Jesus that reflects and magnifies the failure of Adam.
Jesus is from above John 8:23. being born of a virgin Matt. 1:21-23. and to the Throne above he returned Acts 2:25-34, Phil 2:5-11.
Jesus is from above
Jesus came unto the world John 1:14. which was totally fallen and depraved Matthew 23:37-39. It all was evil to the very core Galatians 1:4.
Jesus is placed in a fallen world
Jesus was completely obedient to the law 2 Cor. 5:21, 1 Peter 2:22. was completely perfect John 1:36, 1 Peter 1:19. and lived a life that none other could live for all those that are in Him Colossians 1:18.
Jesus never broke the law
Jesus was cast out the world John 1:10-11. was fully rejected by His own sinfully dead creation John 19:6-7. And He is placed in a garden where none else have laid John 19:41.
Adam is from below, Jesus is from above, Adam in a garden, Jesus in the fallen world, Adam broke the law in the best of conditions, Jesus kept the law in the worst of conditions, Adam is cast out of a garden by God into a fallen world while living, Jesus is cast out of a fallen world by man into a garden while dead.
PROTOEVENGELIUM - This is the first sharing of the Gospel. And it is shared here in the garden by God Himself.

Dust you will eat. v.19. 1 Peter 5:8
1 Peter 5:8 NASB95
8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Consider that and how Daniel was cast into the lions den. The hand of the angels held the mouth of the lions shut. the Lion wants to eat its pray, the serpent wants to consume the dust. however we will see here how the mouth of lion has been shut, and the serpent can not feed on the elect.-JESUS
V.15 Enmity- Eph. 2:16

16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.
the seed of the woman. Matt. 1:21-23
Matthew 1:21–23 NASB95
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
The heel of the seed will be bruised, but the head of the serpent will be crushed.
Genesis 17:3–7 NASB95
3 Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying, 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, And you will be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 “No longer shall your name be called Abram, But your name shall be Abraham; For I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 “I have made you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you. 7 “I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.

V.16-the husband ruling over the wife is representation of the church and Christ. Eph. 5:22-33.
painful child birth is spoken of after the promise of the bruising of the head of the serpent. WHY? why would this come after the promise? because this is going to be just the way that God will save His people.
V.17 cursed is the ground because of you. All creation fell with Adam. Romans 5:17

death had taken his seat when Adam sinned against God.
Adam was created in the image of God however when he fell, all his posterity would take on a corrupted image after Adam Gen 5:3.
V.18. thorns and thistles now are on the ground. could you image going from this perfect scene of the garden to then feel the dark gloomy cloud cast over your head as you take the first step on a thistle?
V.19 Adam will never be able to redeem himself!
V.20 we see the name given to Eve here
V.21 Then God made a skin garment. Death in the garden was placed on the sacrifice. Adam and Eve left that garden feeling the warmth of the sacrifice that took their punishment. And it was not Adam who made the sacrifice but it was God Himself. This is the perfect telling of the Gospel.
The Serpent will receive the death blow, through a woman giving birth to the promised seed, who will take upon himself, undeserving, the curse of man, by removing the filth of man and God Himself making the sacrifice which will cover man. 2 Cor. 5:21
2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB95
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The 1689 LBCF chapter 7 paragraph 3: “This covenant is revealed in the gospel; first of all to Adam in the promise of salvation by the seed of the woman,5 and afterwards by farther steps, until the full discovery thereof was completed in the New Testament;6 and it is founded in that eternal covenant transaction that was between the Father and the Son about the redemption of the elect;7 and it is alone by the grace of this covenant that all the posterity of fallen Adam that ever were saved did obtain life”
