Making the impossible, Possible. The reason
Rope.. alligator…
C.S. Lewis in, A Grief Observed - You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death! It is easy to say you believe a rope to be strong as long as you are merely using it to cord a box. But suppose you had to hang by that rope over a precipice. Wouldn’t you then first discover how much you really trusted it?
How much do you really believe in Jesus?
How much are you willing to trust Him with?
Relationships? Money? Job decisions? Your how life?
Hear His voice
John 20:10-18 (ESV)
10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.
11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).
Angel at the head and feet.
Ark of the covenant pic
Exodus 25:18,20-22 (ESV)
18 And you shall make two cherubim of gold; on the two ends of the mercy seat. 20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another …21 And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you. 22 There I will meet with you,… I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.
The ark was the symbol of God’s presence it was also the symbol of the peoples faith.
Mary who was once possessed by demons is now in the presence of angels.. of God
Why mary? Why not go to the Pharisess, the Sadducees.. Pilates office?
He appears to a woman who served her savior and returned to Him, perhaps w/o hope
Why are you crying? Rev 21:4
She did not believe, she was blinded by her lack of faith
Maybe because she came back.. she sought him out.. perhaps because of how she relentlessly served him
while he was on earth
Jesus elevated women by entrusting Mary with the message
I don’t think men should ever look down on women
Even the disciples where wrong Luke 24:11
11 but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.
How do we hear his voice..
Seek his forgiveness Psalm 32:3-5 (ESV)
3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah 5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Read Scripture Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
How much influence does the world have
How much influence does the Word have
Call God by name Acts 4:12 (ESV)
12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Spend time in silence Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
He calls her by name
Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
Sheepy pic
John 10:3 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
The proclamation of your teacher
She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).
Trust His teaching
John 10:17-18 (ESV)
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.
Matthew 28:9 (ESV) And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
Werenotworthy pic
Jesus dong cling.. you haven’t seen nothing yet..
Do you realize what Jesus has said? We are accepted in the family of God. The sin that separated us from the Lord had been atoned. Man no longer has to stand condemned before God. We can enjoy the righteousness of Christ through His shed blood. He came to redeem fallen man and that is exactly what He did! He purchased our redemption on the cross of Calvary. When believe adopted into the family of God!
Hebrews 2:10-11 ( ESV)
10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,
Live in his presence
John 20:19-23 (ESV)
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
The disciples where livng in fear..afraid of the world.. the rulers.. for their lives..
Jesus no longer physical, he was God
Time space no longer held him
Jesus brings peace
Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
Romans 5:1 (ESV)
5 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
It is the wounds of Jesus that bring us peace… the reason…
Jesus says pease and then gives them purpose
Jesus gives us purpose
21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
Jesus give us the Holy Spirit
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
Through the fathers authority through the power of the spirt..they are to go and forgive others and share the gospel to those who will receive it.
Forgiveness for those who believe
And for those who reject Christ their sins are not forgiven.
He breathed on them
Genesis God breathed life into adam
Here Jesus breathes the spirit into his disciples..
Today he wants to breath new life into you.
The peace that comes… with that
Blessed are those who have not seen
John 20:24-29 (ESV)
24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” 26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Doubt takes you out of the Lord’s presence
Kitchen pics
Sometimes we need to experience the pain to experience the Lords presence..
Peace
Thomas’ week? Stil wont believe.. Jesus invites him to put his hand through the wounds Thomas response
My Lord and My God.
How much more peace do we get without seeing..challenge
Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Rope
If we look at the world we lose hope
If we look to ourselves we only feel fear
But by looking up by faith he saw God and feel peace!
Believing brings you Life
John 20:30-31 (ESV)
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Maybe today God is asking you to swing across your rope with a blindfold on
Do you need to touch Jesus to believe? Do you need to see him to believe?
Empty grave - and the disappearance of the body. 2. Disciples radically transformed - the remarkable transformation in the disciples from gloom to gladness; despair to hope; sorrow to joy. a) And this change took place only 3 days from the event. 3. The Church was built on the Res - the church of Christ came into existence as a result of accepting the resurrection of the Master.
4. How about 10 of the disciples died for what they believed and saw.
4. Our own personal Transformations - the influence of Christ upon men & communities from the time of Paul onwards.
How about me?
