The more you learn to give away the easier it is to unload your stuff
Respected
Proverbs 22:1 (ESV)
22 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.
Righteous
Colossians 3:23-24  (ESV)
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
1 John 2:29  (ESV)
29 If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
Nicodemus
Ruler (leader)
John 3:1-2  (ESV)
3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
Rebellion
John 7:47-52 (ESV)
47 The Pharisees answered them, “Have you also been deceived? 48 Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? 49 But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” 50 Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, 51 “Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” 52 They replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”

Jesus responded with vs 10 and on “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?
If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.[g] 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV)
22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Martin luther 95 thesis against the church
First thesis was When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said “Repent,” he intended that the entire life of believers should be repentance.
Luther is not living on top of the world.. but at the foot of the cross
The went from secret to out in the open followers of Christ
New people through a dead savior.
John 12:24  (ESV)
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
The preparation to the grave
John 19:39-41 (ESV)
39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
This mixture of spices would have been equiveent to 150 -200 thousand dollars
Preparing our all for Jesus
God honored the burial, they had very little ttime.. they had to finish before nightfall in order to not break the sabbath before Passover. They were rushed, yet
They spared no expense.

The place of the grave
John 19:41-42(ESV)
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. 42 So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

Crucified but not guilty a Grave fit for a King
Stanford stays, “The Church is the poor man’s church;” yes, and it is also the rich man’s church; for there “the rich and the poor meet together, and the Lord is the Maker of them all.”
It was a borrowed grave.. tim next week..
No one had been laid
(Spurgeon) “If they buried him in an old tomb, the Jews would say that he had touched the bones of some prophet or other holy man, and so came to life.”
A moment without hope?
John Phillips: We can imagine how things probably went. Pilate went home to supper and to make a report to his wife of the day's events. Annas and Caiaphas presided at their respective Passover feasts. Peter wept alone. The body of Judas lay forgotten. John sought to comfort his new mother. The other disciples hid themselves from public eye. Herod and his men of war mocked. Did Mary of Bethany have a sense of expectation in her heart? Did a Roman soldier try on his new robe, and another try to wash the blood of the Son of God off his spear?
It was close at hand….
Matthew 24:42-44  (ESV)
42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
The reason Jesus had to be buried.. to make a spectacular comeback.. the reason for Christmas to Bring forth the true king.
What are you preparing for right now?
Each day we should be preparing for Jesus because he is Preparing for you.
1 Peter 3:18-20  (ESV)
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which he went and proclaime to the spirits in prison, 20 because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.
John 19:38-42 (ESV)
