The 5 Capitals
Spiritual Capital
Talking about the depth of our relationship with God as a disciple of Jesus, which gives us Spiritual Equity that we can invest in others.
The currency is wisdom and power.
Two things people we constantly amazed at by Christ.
Teachings
Miracles.
“Wisdom is where knowledge and love kiss each other, and power is simply operating in Christ’s authority with his resources.”
According to Christ, Spiritual Capital is the most important of all.
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come, and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Mt 7:24–27.
Relational Capital
How much relational equity we have to invest?
The currency is family and friends.
Second on the list of importance.
Once Jesus chose his disciples, he was intentional and prioritized his time with them.
Like Christ, investing relationally in this way is a good way to “Pay the Bills.”
Physical Capital
How much time and energy we have to invest.
The currency of this is hours and health.
This refers to our ability to devote time and energy to people and projects.
Jesus took care of his physical capital.
He walked from place to place.
He Slept.
Used language to communicate his ideas
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Eph. 5:15–17.
No amount of money or ideas can replace the value of being physically present.
Intellectual Capital
How much creativity, ideas, and knowledge we have to invest.
The currency is concepts and ideas.
This is next to last.
Jesus had intelligence and he used it to bless other people.
The Pharisees did their best to try and trap Jesus.
Jesus told them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is Gods.”
Financial Capital
How much treasure we have to invest.
The currency is dollars and cents.
Lowest of the group.
We get in trouble because we overvalue our finances.
Paul knew how to keep things integrated.
He said, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstance.
