yēsha’ is another synonym for yeshû’āh and teshû’āh, above, found about thirty times with the primary meanings “salvation,” “deliverance.”
yēsha’ refers to salvation wrought by Yahweh for his people in 2 Sam. 22:3, 36, 47; Pss. 18:2, 35, 46; 27:1; 51:12; 85:4; Isa. 17:10; 51:5; 62:11; Mic. 7:7; Hab. 3:13, 18.
1 Chr. 16:35; Pss. 79:9; 85:7 contain pleas to God for salvation. Ps. 95:1 praises God for his salvation.
In a metaphorical context, “garments of salvation” are offered by God to “clothe” his people (Isa. 61:10).
NT WORDS
sōtēria [σωτηρία, 4991]
sōtēria is the only New Testament term for “salvation,” “deliverance.” It occurs fifty times, with these meanings in the large majority of these texts. In each of these contexts, the salvation is predicated of God and/or Christ, either explicitly or implicitly.
General references to “salvation” include those in 2 Cor. 7:10; Phil. 1:19; 1 Thess. 5:8; Heb. 1:14; 6:9; 2 Pet. 3:15. More explicit references to the salvation granted by God to his people are found in Luke 1:77; John 4:22; Acts 4:12; 13:26; Phil. 1:28; 2 Thess. 2:13. In particular, the consummate “day of salvation” is noted in 2 Cor. 6:2. Other references to the salvation to be revealed at the end of time include those in Rom. 13:11; 1 Pet. 1:5, 9.
Particular references to salvation having come to God’s people in the person of Christ are found in Luke 2:30; 19:9; 1 Thess. 5:9; 2 Tim. 2:10; 3:15; Heb. 2:3, 10; 5:9; Heb. 9:28; 1 Pet. 1:10; Jude 3; Acts 16:7 refers to the “way of salvation” in connection with the proclamation of the gospel of Christ. God and Christ are praised and glorified as the source of the salvation of their people in Rev. 7:10; 12:10; 19:1.
The gospel is declared to be the power and vehicle of salvation in Rom. 1:16; Eph. 1:13.
Acts 13:47; 28:28 proclaim God’s people to be the bearers of the message of salvation to the world at large. Rom. 11:11; Titus 2:11 declare that salvation is to be granted to the Gentiles.
The expression “horn of salvation” refers metaphorically to Jesus Christ the Messiah in Luke 1:69. The “helmet of salvation” is mentioned as part of the believer’s spiritual armor in Eph. 6:13.
