Evangelism Training

trying to get you comfortable with explaining salvation, so you will have an easy time conversing about it
Poll: Which one of these is one of the three “evangelism questions”?
all good questions, but which one have we talked about?
What are the other two questions?
Are you a sinner?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again for your sins?
Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ?
Hopefully get an unsaved person to answer yes to these three questions.
Memory Scriptures
Romans 3:23 NASB95
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 NASB95
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Salvation in action - first evangelism event after Jesus rose from the dead
Acts 2:37–38 NASB95
37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
repent - decision to change your way of life (not just say I’m sorry, but willing to change)
repent of the life before becoming a follower of Jesus
doesn’t mean you will be perfect
repent of the single life and get married, decision to change your way of life - doesn’t mean immediately become a perfect spouse, but it does signify a commitment
repent of civilian life and join the army, decision to change your way of life - not going to be the perfect soldier overnight, but it does signifiy a commitment
this fits two our questions:
“Are you a sinner” - if you are not a sinner, you don’t need to repent
“Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ”
be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ - outward sign of the commitment
single person - wedding
civilian - swearing in ceremony
fits the question, “Are you willing to surrender your life to Christ” - this is first act of obedience to Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins and receive the Holy Spirit
fits question - “Do you believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again for your sins?”

Hudson Taylor, Chapter 8

Miracles

When I say miracles what comes to mind? (put it in the chat)
Bible - Red Sea, Walls of Jericho, 3 Hebrew boys in the fire, Daniel in the lions den, all the people that Jesus healed, feed 5,000
modern times - healing, financial miracle
but there are other types of miracles
Review
Taylor is now married, winning converts, and his hands are completely full and resources are completely used in his house on Bridge street which also serves as a dispensary (pharmacy)
Miracles in People - Mr. Ni
man just passing by and heard the preaching/teaching of Taylor
it was a miracle because
he was a Buddhist leader
accepted Christ that same night and was bold enough to declare it
remember that any Chinese person accepting Christ was also going against their cultural upbringing - this is a giant, giant step
So God did a miracle and changed the life of a very unlikely person
his soul was hungry for the truth and Holy S showed him this was the truth
In Evangelizing people
don’t forget that some of the least likely people are hungry for the truth
don’t forget that the Holy Spirit can speak to a person in a powerful way, He does the work
Action - pray for salvation of people you know, do your part to spread the gospel, you don’t have to be impressive
Miracles in Ministry - The Hospital
the wife of Dr. Parker, a missionary in charge of a hospital they set up dies, and one his kids was sick
after prayer, Taylor agreed to take over (Matthew 6:33)
staffing problem - current workers leave because money is running out
income problem - no new income
super busy already at the dispensary problem
take months for people back in London to even know that they needed more money
Miracle - God solved all problems
new staff came from his new converts
donor came into some extra money and offered to send more (just as last bag of rice ran out)
somehow they made it work
patients got better care
more people hear the gospel through workers
community got to see God coming through for the Christians
Taylor uses Matthew 6:33 to bolster his faith in taking on the hospital
most of us use this scripture for personal needs, and that’s fine because Jesus mentioned clothes,
but Taylor used it for ministry, READ quote from his letter on page 100 (56 middle in the blue book) “Are we not told to seek . . .”
Seek God’s will, not how God will make it happen
WMBC in evangelizing, building fund
Action
Ask God to do miracles for the sake of His purpose
Be more willing to step out on faith if the cause is for the gospel
what miracles in ministry do you need? (people will be impacted)
personal, role at church, church as a whole
starts off with an open door and a step of faith
Notes
full study regimen - Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Book
some walked long distances without food just to get to church on Sunday
