1 Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight.
The Lord hates dishonest scales.
This verse is touches on Gods hatred for fraud.
A Dishonest ( false) weight is added weight that comes across heavier then what it is.
This is a Egyptian Weighting Scale. And they used Egyptian weighing rings
2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
This ties in nicely with verse one because just like a false weight. Pride is a false weight it displays itself heavier then what it is.
Pride pride presents itself heavier.
Being puffed up it means your full of hot air. You look large but really your very shallow.
Pride doesn’t display itself in isolation but in clusters. Someone who only thinks of self and has no regard for others, can easily resort to cheating in business affairs.
Because of pride and self seeking it spills over how business is handled.
One time I was in Budapest and a gentlemen said it is apart of the culture to lie in business.
How many of us lied on a interview before.
Or your resumes. You put all the things you think the employer would like to hear.
The resume is beefed up. You told them you know how to use excel. Just to get in the door. lol
Pride means to boil up, its the same word for cooking . Like you are taking the time to put the seasoning on there, cooking it at the right tempeture. No regrad for anything else just focusing on the task at hand.
Pride is premeditated.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs Moral Integrity and God’s Judgment (11:1–4)
This series of proverbs implicitly links arrogance to fraud and deceit while linking humility to moral integrity
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.
4 Hear this, you who swallow up the needy, And make the poor of the land fail,
Imagine if you attributed to making the poor of the land fail.
What if you are responible for adding to the oppression of the poor.
Adding more struggle to an already oppressed and marginalized group.
Imagine us as a church not giving to the poor.
Who are the unprotected members in society. Maybe God is calling us to minister to them.
Maybe how we handle business we don’t intend any ill will but the effect is what matters.
5 Saying: “When will the New Moon be past, That we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, That we may trade wheat? Making the ephah small and the shekel large, Falsifying the scales by deceit,
Imagine waiting for church to be over because you wanted to go and cheat people.
Selling Grain and making the portions small and over charging for it.
