Walk in the Spirit
Text: Romans 8:1-11
Intro: The Holy Spirit
Principle: Live with assurance of Jesus
FCF: We doubt. We distort. We quench. (1 Thess 5:19)
Target: The Holy Spirit empowers you to take your place in his forever family.
1. You believe in Christ. (1-5)
E: No Condemnation (John 3:17-18), Propitiation (1 John 2:2), Walk in the Spirit (accordance to the word of God. Belief impacts action
A: Guilt doesn’t carry over. Price has been paid. We may all be different but we have the same Spirit because we have the same savior and same end goal.
Ar: Orthodoxy leads to orthopraxy - Belief impacts actions
I: Books start with philosophy and move to the how to’s. Your heart has to first be for Jesus.
2. You belong in his family. (6-10)
E: Sons of God (John 1:12) , The Spirit affirms us (Romans 8:16-17), Heirs with Christ, The Grave doesn’t keep you, Sin can’t stop you, the standard can’t prevent you for the love and glory of God
A: All can come to Jesus - no matter race, wealth, health, earthly daddy, from the doctor to the drive thru - you can come to Jesus
I: Tell your daughters one day they can wear white dresses and they’ll be dancing because its true. Do you know what you were meant for? You were meant to shine with Jesus.
3. You become in his likeness. (11)
E: The same power that raised Jesus from the grave lives in you. Jesus healed. Jesus restored. Jesus spoke. Jesus will return and with the words of his mouth all will tremble beacuse he’ll be that powerful. So speak with grace and truth without holding back and present to the world repent for the kingdom of heaven is near because the power of God is in you.
A: No need to fear. It comes but trust that when fear comes, you have power. Fear is not from God but from an enemy who wants to stop the power inside you.
Ar: 2 Tim 1:7
I: I know my son’s cry and voice because I know him and he’s mine. He knows my voice because I’m his daddy. God is for you. You are more than a conqueror in Jesus. If God is your father, he hears you and you hear him. Don’t run from that voice. If you sense it, you got to say it.
Takeaway: Lean on the Spirit to live in the Spirit.
Acts 19:15 But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?”
My prayer for you is that you would walk so closely in the Spirit, trusting his voice that the enemy doesn’t give you fear; you give fear to the enemy. You are powerful and you belong.
