Christ Like

-Tonight we are starting a new series titled Christ Like.
-This series will prepare us for Easter and give a deeper understanding to the significance of the life Jesus lived and the power we have through His sacrifice.
-Tonight we are simply answering the question: What is Christ Like?
This phrase is thrown around a lot and I don’t know if we truly understand what it actually means for our lives.

1 John 2:3-6

1 John 2:3–6 NIV
3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Pray

Obey What He Said

1 John 2:3–4 NIV
3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
- Obedience reveals commitment to Christ; this serves as a valid test for determining someone’s relationship with Him.
-Being Christ like does not just simply mean you like Jesus, it means you are willing to do what he says because you believe He is who He said He is.
John 15:10 NIV
10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

Love How He Lived

1 John 2:5–6 NIV
5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
- The act of God’s love becoming complete in a person—accomplishing its purposes of transforming them.
- Jesus is the example Christians are to follow, it is the Christian’s obligation to live as Jesus lived.
Mark 8:35–36 NIV
35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
