There are moments in nature shows where the scientist sees for the first time something he had only heard of before
The astonishment of finally seeing what they had only heard existed
I had a moment like that with what I heard were disney freaks
People who go religiously multiple times a year
We got to our first house in Greenville and on the wall was the remnant of their Creed
I saw their belief statement that sets the hard core apart
“In this house we let it go, because hakuna matata and all the bear necesities will always be our giude to inifinity and beyond. All it takes is faith trust and a little bit of pixy dust We believe in happy endings and we know that life is always better under the sea because in this house we do disney”
A truly terrifying encounter
But it is very helpful to understand why a statement exists like that
what does it mean to be a disney freak ....read the creed and you will know where the line is drawn
Thats what creeds do
There are lots of people who go to disney but if you are the real deal that sign is your belief
The same is true for the Christian Message
Many people have the bible but what is the true message ....what are the essentials that set our belief apart
How do we find hope in a world that isnt how its supposed to be? Everyone has a creed…We all have a functional deep belief that some story will give us the good life
The apostles creed is the definitlive essentials …it is the story of reality it is the declaration that these things are what truly matter if you want hope and promises kept that seem to good to be true in a broken world
It is important on a day like today that we get the essentials right…the apostles creed is the essentials
