FREED FROM THE LAW
Joe L. Pope
11-25-09
ROMANS 7:1-6
7Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives.
But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.
6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
…The New King James Version.
1982.
Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
ROMANS 7:1
7Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?
…The law is forever and has dominion over man this is really tough to think of when no one has been perfect and no one could live life without breaking one of Gods laws.
JAMES 1:15
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
…So James tells us that sin brings death and if our desires are not in control this will bring sin.
This is a tough thing to think of because I know that my desires can bring me death because my desires are not always righteous, are yours?
ROMANS 7:2-3
2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives.
But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.
…This is amazing that God would have Paul talk about marriage here after telling us that the law has dominion over man forever, if we divorce from our husband we would be sinning if we marry another.
Well let me tell you this is true but Paul is telling us a bigger message here than this lets read the 4th verse and see what Paul says.
ROMANS 7:4
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
…This is so huge to hear this because Paul tells us that we became dead in Christ that we may marry another without commiting sin.
How you might ask?
...Well let me break down for you, when we give our life to Christ we get baptised and when we come out of the water we are washed in the blood of the lamb clean and perfect without fault.
This death that we do in this allows us to be remarried to Jesus through his death and resurection.
ROMANS 7:5-6
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.
6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
…Before our death and resurrection in Christ our passions caused us to sin, and our fruit we bearded was sin to death.
Christ redeemed us from the law.
He died to take our sins on himself so we could be free from the everlasting death that we were bound for.
…Now if we have accepted Christ in our hearts and have been baptized we have been washed and made new by Christ blood and death that we could have everlasting life.
…We are virgins being married to the Lamb of God for eternity.
CONCLUSION
I have given you the truth now let me tell you what God has showed me in my heart while putting this together.
God is the law and the only way He could give us a chance to be saved was by coming in the flesh to take our sin on himself and die.
He was resurrected after death just like us clean and washed in His own death to be clean to marry us again as Grace.
He asked us to die with Him to be reborn together as new, Him being Grace and us being virgins without sin.
The bridegroom is asking you today would you like to be His bride?
Would you except this offer to be the bride of Christ today?
IF YOU ANSWERED YES
Say this simple prayer with me.
…Jesus I believe that you came died were reborn descended into hell unlocked the gates of hell ascended into heaven and sit at the right had of God almighty.
You have accepted me in my sinful ways to help me through your Holy Spirit to live a righteous life with you for eternity.
Jesus wash me today in your precious blood cleanse me and help me to live my life here on earth righteous unto you until the day I can be with you in Glory In Jesus Name I pray Amen.
