Introduction: Before we read our passage for John 8:12-59, I want to share with you the main point of this passage. The true identity of Jesus gives us certainty for our identity with God. Said another way, You can have confidence that you belong to God because Jesus is absolutely certain about His own identity. Said another way, I can be sure that I am a child of God because of who Jesus is. (Read the passage)
Transition: You and I can believe in Jesus Christ and experience life in His name because of who He is. Now, as we discover this truth from the text today I want to share with you at least three ways this should be applied to your life
If your not a Christian, but are wondering what it means to be a Christian, there will be three specific questions that if you answer yes to… you can become a Christian today.
Second, if you think you are a Christian, but are having some doubts about your true identity, there will be three specific questions to help give you assurance in your identity in Christ. These questions will help you to examine yourself to see if your in the faith.
Third, if you are sure that you are truly a child of God, you can use these three questions to help encourage someone who may be struggling as a Christian. Or use these three questions when you are having a conversation with a friend, family member, co-worker, or some other person who is not a Christian. These questions are helpful to our evangelism.

Conclusion: Jesus reveals His identity as God! The cresenda of the passage is Jesus announcement of His deity. All the question and dialogue with the Pharisees is culminating to this point… Jesus saying , “I Am”. How can Jesus make such bold statements and guarantee His words? The reason you can follow Him, Believe Him, and abide in His word and have the guarantee of eternal life is because he is God. Because Jesus is God, He can accomplish everything He promises. he offers to you eternal life. Anyone who will follow him, believe him, and abide in His word… you can have the light of life.
