Introduction

Isaiah 57:1–2 NASB 95
The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil, He enters into peace; They rest in their beds, Each one who walked in his upright way.
Death brings questions that we do not want to ask:
Why?
Why him/her?
Why not me?
Why not someone else?
Why does God allow this? Why didn’t he intervene”
Why didn’t someone do something?
Why didn’t I do something?

Isaiah struggled with deaths of the righteous

The righteous (good) die and it seems that the world is unaffected
The devout (faithful) die and no one knows why
“The good die young”

The righteous dead are in peace, away from evil

We are left behind
As Christians, we are happy that our loved ones are in the presence of Jesus
As humans—family members—we are broken hearted and miss them dearly
