WWJU Hollow Worship

Last Week we talked about being indifferent ,Lukewarm and I talked about a time that I gave a training plan to a friend and they try could careless about it,.

This week I want to confess to you all something, there was a time I gave some gifts to my brothers and sisters that I put zero thought into.

Time I went to the dollar store for Christmas presents at Lisa’s houses.

The presents really did not mean anything, you could say that they were just empty tokens meant to make ME feel better.

What Would Jesus Undo? Hollow Worship

Matthew 15:1–2 NIV

Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”

The Pharisee’s were obsessed with cleanliness, but more so with ceremonial cleanliness

there were 2 categories: Clean and unclean

Animals—Food—Things. Unclean is contagious—Transferable.

Skin disease. Bodily discharge. Dead body. Pig. Mouse.

Something unclean touched a cup—You drank—Unclean—Touched you—Unclean

How to become clean,

Minimum amount of water—Quarter of a log—Fill 1 ½ egg shell.

Poured on both hands—Fingers pointed upward.

Water must run off wrists (Now unclean) Downward

Rub fists hands—Strict Jew not only do before meal—between courses.

But Jesus knows their hearts and lets them know it.

Matthew 15:7–8 NIV

You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

So here we have Jesus being confronted

But Jesus flips it around on them and calls them all hypocrites

The word hypocrite here is in the greek hypo-kree-tass it means actor

Their worship was empty, hollow and vain

When We Praise God Only Externally Are Heart Are Far From God

There is no substance to our worship

-When I was growing up my Church prayed much the same worship as our praise and worship time here.

Worshipping at the gate church, flags, tambourins, ribbons, dancing and so on, it was much, Much different than what I had ever been apart of.

Another Church has the lights really low and moving lights and a fog machine, and then another Church that did hymns

WHICH one is right? Both or neither

Worship Is Not About The Style Of Music, But the Condition Of Your Heart

Being a follower of Jesus is not a hobby, not something that is an interest, its not a part of our lives, IT IS LIFE, Christ is LIFE

Worship Isn’t Limited To The Songs We Sing, But The Life We Live!

How Do We Express Our Worship?

Sometimes We Bow In Reverence

Psalm 95:6 NIV

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

Kneel in Submission,

One day every knee will bow

We Can Lift Our Hands In Adoration

Psalm 63:4 NIV

I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

We Can Dance

Psalm 149:3 NIV

Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.

Sometimes We Worship With a Sacrifice of Praise

Hebrews 13:15 NIV

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.

We worship him when we feel him—Worship him when we don’t.

We worship when we are joyful—When we are low.

Daily, We Lay Down Our Lives As An Act Of Worship

Romans 12:1 NIV

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Worship Is not Just The Songs We Sing, It Is The Life We Live.
