Story sticks. - Dolphin dream story… Bible verses and logic don’t.
I had a dream of swimming with dolphins.
Years went by…
Boat ride. Saw 60 dolphins. He got to swim together with dolphins. Effortless motion.
Life has been mundane every since that experience…
We are going to talk about Sabbath - the glorious truth of effortless motion.
Sabbath is about moving and moving while at rest.
Move from “I have to do something to be saved” to “I want to do something” - You change fundamentally by the power of Jesus’ redeeming grace.
Then it brings about root-level change in perspective.
It is an experience very much like falling in love.
The person who falls in love enters into a whole region of reality. A whole new realm.
It’s just full of “I want to” and completely free from “I have to”.
Your have to is because you want to.
It doesn’t mean that you won’t break in serving God. It doesn’t mean that there won’t be effort, but it’s a kind of joy. But it’s about effortless effort.
So you are moving… Sabbath is not cheap grace nor is it legalism. It’s a liberation from both legalism and cheap grace.
Begin with Genesis 2 .
God created everything in chiastic structure.
Chiasm is pointing to 7.
All of the space and all of the things that filled the space are only for the one ultimate objective, and that is for the Creator to have a relationship with the creation.
It’s all about the relationship.
Art doesn’t exist for art itself. Space doesn’t exist for space itself. It’s all for us in a relation to God. And Sabbath becomes temple in time (According to Abraham Joshua Heschel).
Sabbath is in fact eternity enshrouded in time.
The Sabbath tells us what the eternity enfolded in time. What’s eternity going to be like? It’s a perpetual rest that is full of energy. It is going to be a total repose, full of vigor.
There won’t be any anxiety, any fear, any jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjnnnmmmm emotional sense of discord… It will be a sheer enthusiasm about God, life, and others. And all of that is going to be bursting in patterns of self-giving love.bhj
