Title: Why serve the Lord!
In Deuteronomy 32:9-14 it tells of a people who are blessed of God.
A people who were found in a desert land and wilderness whom he lead about, instructed them and kept them as the apple of His eye.
Draws a picture of an eagle spreading her wings over her young, and God doing the same for his ppl.
God alone lead them, no other god helped him.
He made them to ride over the high places of the earth…
He blessed their flocks so the would always have meat, butter, milk
It was as though they could honey from a rock and oil from flint
These are a blessed people!
I began to think about really how blessed they were… and I realized that as blessed as Israel was and is, I often am overwhelmed by the blessings of God!
It is no wonder that David, even in days and times of Dispare would continually sing of God’s blessings!
Blessed be the Lord,
Who daily loadeth us with benefits,
Even the God of our salvation. Selah.
The book of Philippians has much to say about the benefits of serving God.
1. He finishes what he starts
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
There is nothing worse than someone who wont finish what they started!
But God always finishes it!
He did not begin to help you to let you down!
He did not start to heal you to stop the process!
He did not bless you today to forget you tomorrow!
2. Real success comes through him
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
You can plan…
You can prepare…
But true success comes from God!
3. In Him is life
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Lord I can’t even walk without you holding my hand!
Everything I am belongs to him!
That is why I smile!
4. In Him is the prize we are reaching for
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
The whole world is searching for something…
They don’t even know it is Jesus
Take this whole world but give me Jesus!
5. Our Strength comes from Him
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Acts 17:28 says in Him we live and move and have life!
A Psalm of David.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
6. Provision comes from Him
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
What ever need
Conclusion:
7. Think about all he does
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
